I was really hoping to see my Google cameras on the list of supported models. I'm expecting them to be EOL'd any day.
I am slowly migrating and replacing my way to an entirely self-hosted smart home setup, but my Google cameras were expensive and it would be fantastic to be able to flash and integrate them with the rest.
It's essentially a static image with a mouth moving when a sound plays. There's no real connection between what's being said and what shapes the mouth is making and the lack of any movement on the rest of the face is just incredibly awkward to watch. It might be a first step towards something great, but seems far too rough and early to be showing it off.
Please don't stink up HN comments with your fetish trash comments. This is one of the last places online where the comment section is still free from lazy puns, repeated jokes, one-word replies and sleaze.

They now owned by Google but I find Waze to consistently provide better and faster routing (by car) than Google Maps when I use them both on my Android phone.

Presumably it's a name for people from the US but I've never seen it before and it's not great.
On one hand I absolutely love Google's ecosystem and have an Android phone, use Gmail, have an nVidia Shield TV, use Android Pay, travel using Google Maps for transit every day, use Docs for work, Drive for all cloud storage needs and YouTube is YouTube.
On the other, being so reliant on one company for so much is bound to cause problems at some point.
I work in a school where we have a bunch of iPads that get passed around from classroom to classroom. They are terrible. I wish they'd purchased Chromebooks instead but iPads are more impressive on a list of school features.
I use Profile Manager. I run OSX Server on a 2012 16GB/1TB macmini and it's been pretty good. It's stable - I think I've rebooted it once in about a year and a half. Anything you can do in configurator you can do with profile manager aside from a few things like setting the wallpaper.

Mmm.. his terrible facial hair made me think it was an amature video. Hilarious that people are paying the guy money to put himself in their product videos and he doesn't even tidy his beard up.
Hasn't Google+ done this for quite some time now? I think at 2048 x 2048 you can store unlimited photos. Odd that it wasn't one of the comparisons in the article anyway.
There's a great app for rooted Android devices called Pry-fi that generates random MAC addresses while you're not connected to a network.

His argument is not a straw man and Android does not force the user to do power management, as you claimed. It is an optional.
If FirefoxOS is to have any chance at adoption by the general public that attitude has to go. How many people will be happy with responses like yours when they ask a very reasonable question? Not too many.
For me the great thing was it allowed streaming video in a quality not matched by the terrible RealPlayer and the like. Downloading videos is easy now but back on slow ADSL to download a video was an overnight task but streaming was pretty much instant.
This is complete nonsense. It's perfectly easy to stand up in the underground train cars.
I had a Nexus 4 from launch until the Nexus 5 and never had a problem with receiving or sending SMS messages.
I've never heard of it being a common problem either. Your wife should go ahead and get the phone if she wants one.
I actually found their initial attempts really disappointing. I was hoping for some really cool, advanced stuff. Emailing them .jar files? To me that's laughable. When my friends and I used to try and infect each other with sub7 in the 90s it was with a .jpg with the executable buried inside. That was more sneaky that a .jar claiming to be a resume.
Nova is the best 3rd-party launcher by far. I love your work with it.

This sounds like the video used a pre-recorded voice. So it isn't even actually working yet.
Agreed. I think the difference is nowadays everything is very user friendly. There's no need for the kids to learn how to use a DOS prompt or know about IRQ values to get sound in games working. Apple's "it just works" phrase applies to so much that nobody needs to know much to get things done.
I am around kids at work and their technical knowledge is amazingly limited. Who needs to know stuff when 'there's an app for that...'?
I understand that dumping everything at once would probably be a bad idea but the tweeting of teasers? If it's really going to be such a big deal it should be treated with respect.
edit: Hopefully this will come out on Monday, start of the week is always a good time to release stuff that you want eyeballs on.
