What a joke. I moved from europe (eastern europe but still eu) to the us after my parents died in a hospital because of the incredible quality of “free healthcare” which didn’t want to pay for their treatment and often forgot to feed the in the hospital.

If I had the money I made in the us then I could have maybe put them in a private hospital. You’re only as free as how much money you have in your pocket, nothing else matters.

I’d switch positions in a heartbeat, and I have good work like balance but only make a fifth of that. Cry me a river.

Really appreciate The time you’ve put into this! I have no wealth or anything like that, so the road for me will definitely be to work like a dog for the next 10 years and hope someone wants to pay handsomely for what I build (honestly even being a senior at faang I’ll never escape the middle class paying income tax). I did the opposite and found the us much better. Pay and opportunities are infinitely better, people are friendlier, having a car is much easier and more convenient.

I moved from Europe to the US, and so have a lot of other people who aim to become rich. In europe most rich people inherit everything, mobility to upper class is basically non existent. Here it’s Very much possible

How did you make mor? i worked in Sweden and my compensation was 4x less than it is in America. Unless you got extremely lucky or were much more senior it’s impossible, case in which you would have made far far more in the us anyhow

The masters ranking does matter if you’re international

You are much luckier and more of a “survivor” than any of them I feel. I also work at Faang, but only graduated college last year and only make 200k a year, barely. I will never reach your income at a job with where the stock market is at now, and how much the competition increased, you rode the wave all the way to the top of the corporate slaves pyramid.

So I’ll quit next year to start something because otherwise I’ll never become anywhere near rich with my income.

I moved from europe to the us because I could never become financially independent with the low compensation and high taxes in EU. I would never wish for us to ever be as unambitious and hard to grow as the eu is.

Not really possible when you’re already inside US with a visa tied to your company. Plus not sure how investors would see a foreigner setting up a us company he can’t run without their investment (risk coming from gov ineptitude is not something anyone likes)

No worries! I was feeling a bit stick yesterday so apologize if the original doesn’t make much sense. Above is right, I was wondering how I could do something similar but legitimately, since last I checked biggest issue for me would be the immigration.

I know I’m in a super good situation, especially compared to others in the rest of the world, but there’s still that feeling when you know you’re ready for a new stage in your life yet some invisible hand is holding you back.

What type of visa does a 20 year old get to start a hedge fund on wall street? I’m really curios, because working on this is my dream but I’m stuck as an L1 engineer at faang instead :(. I worked really hard to get here but I really wish I could do something like this (legitimately) instead.

Interesting, I’m from Eastern Europe so never heard about this system. Sounds like a good alternative to public schools or boarding schools for sure.

Jail is 100% like high school, from the experiences of the people I know who spent time in the can at least.

I’m wondering if there is a way to create some sort of less structured alternative to the government education system. I think socializing with people of different classes, beliefs and abilities is necessary, and I would probably not send my kind to some kind of system where he would only meet other high IQ peers, but the gov education is >95% wasted time. Perhaps a combination of homeschooling + mandatory sports team participation + some artsy stuff?

Check out nomad capitalist youtube. I know the guy, he is incredibly nice and knowledgeable on this topic. Myself, I would recommend Mexico and Bali but I’m Eastern European so really bored of the area. Georgia (the country) would be much better than Poland and other suggestions here though.

I’m aware about it in theory, but I think for people already in us on a work visa it’s a chicken and egg problem between starting and getting the o1. I can’t start anything as I can only work for my employer, and I can’t get an o1 because I can’t start anything. Looks like the founders are not interested in answering this one.

What visa are you guys on in the us? I work at big corp on l1 and would love to be a founder but waiting for green card…
