I added a caveat.

ImmerJS is a direct replacement for ImmutableJS.

We recently switched from using ImmutableJS in our Redux store to using ImmerJS.

We took the approach one reducer at a time. We have multiple reducers and we're using combineReducers (the ImmutableJS one until it was completely converted).

We had no issues whatsoever in the change. ImmutableJS doesn't care about plain JS objects (which is what ImmerJS reducers return) so everything worked as expected.

React's shallow comparison worked as expected since ImmerJS produces new objects on mutation (just like ImmutableJS).

Essentially: there is no case where ImmutableJS is needed. All functionality and benefits are available in ImmerJS which is a much easier to use library.

To do the migration, we literally just used the docs on the Github repo. This was back with version 1.0 or something and it wasn't documented very well but we were able to figure it out. The first code example is how to use it with Redux. Also the section on Currying is useful.

Edit to add: This is all within the context of web apps, specifically React apps with Redux. I'm sure there's probably some places where ImmutableJS is desirable, but I don't know of any.

I agree that Slack can pull me out of the zone. Also it's terrible when you're trying to find a decision your team made in the past.

I tried Twist but couldn't get any buy in from the team. Seems like it would solve the issues I have with Slack: it has real-time chatting, but also long-term async storage. It's also easy to move a conversation from the real-time chat to the long-term storage thing.

All of the major Cell providers in the US (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint) do this sort of crap to different degrees.

AT&T and Verizon have the most money so they do it the most.

If you want to use something a little less ... tainted, you can look into MVNOs. They buy bulk service from the major carriers and sell it to you at a reduced cost (with usually fewer "benefits").

Be sure to look to who actually owns the MVNO though. I know, for example, that AT&T owns Cricket and T-Mobile owns MetroPCS.

One thing I'm not seeing is people talking about the reason Microsoft created UWP: as a competitor to responsive web frameworks that could run on their Continuum and Windows on ARM platforms.

Of course, the second they abandoned Windows Mobile, it made UWP irrelevant (not that it was terribly relevant anyway).

Absolutely no one* wants to build an app that works only on Windows 10 desktops, Xbox and IoT devices. There's no use for that.
