If you want English to be more like Hungarian, start inserting Hungarian words into sentences otherwise written in English

I've been doing something like this with Finnish (which is in the same language family as Hungary) - I use Finnish colloquialism but directly translated into English. Things like "going ass first up a tree" (meaning doing something in a sub-optimal way) or "better on the ground than in the devil's mouth" (when you spill something). I find it amusing.

The author is right though, the English language is dreadful; In Finnish the words are written and pronounced the same way. Try that with some names of cities or towns in England.

Does this offer any benefits over Tailscale and having an exit node at home?

Do any of these forks have the ability to sync, either with Firefox or something self hosted? Or are they all just basically reskins with a single toggle added or such?

Rather than having flow and concentration interrupted by incoming message notifications, with email I can easily decide when to fetch and process messages.

But emails also notify and therefore interrupt. If you want to turn notifications off in your email or only poll new mails when you choose you can also mute notifications (or turn on dnd) or close the chat app.

Email sucks for chat like communication. It is great for long detailed messages. Having both is the best of both worlds.

I have work email and personal email. I have work chat (Slack) and personal chat (WhatsApp with friends, Keybase with my partner). Choosing which chat app is also a great tool for making sure I am dealing with the right audience. I don't want to accidentally message my boss about stuff I send to my partner.

I am AuDHD and this is 80% my experience. I saw this post in the morning pondering if I call in sick or work because of insomnia and being unable to have the energy.

I commute to work by train and even though I have great headphones and listen to music on Spotify some mornings it just crackles in my ears. The audio is fine, but I'm extra sensitive sometimes.

At the office people are sometimes very loud. They are excited and having fun but when it goes over my sensory limit (which varies a lot) I become unable to do anything. Ears crackling with headphones means I can't shut their noise out either. And we're supposed to be social at the office but they talk about stuff I don't know what to say about.

When I get home I am beyond exhausted. Can't sleep because of anxiety or adrenaline or something. I just zombie out streaming series or movies while reading Hacker News, Reddit or Bluesky. I promise myself I'll go to sleep early but if I do I can't fall asleep until 2-4am. If I stay up until 1am I have better chance of falling asleep faster.

Weekends are spent catching up with sleep, wanting to tidy up and do side projects as well as gaming but most times I spend half the day in bed and then stay up gaming or something because it is my time and I want to do the fun stuff. Rince and repeat unless I get lucky and catch 10 to 12 hours of sleep.

I'm a 47 year old female principal engineer. I feel like I'm just drifting through the days and months. But I do live my work, the people and challenges. I just wish I could deal with everything better.

I've been a Gopher for over 8 years and a dev for over 25. I like asking LLMs for suggestions and improvements to my code. Sometimes they offer good insight, a lot of times they don't. No harm in testing!

I've pretty much ignored the various Reddit revolts. What drove me away from Reddit and Imgur was the constant spam of US politics. The recent Imgur revolt actually made the site better for me (after the middle finger spam ended) - political posts went from ~50% to less than 10%.

I find the most annoying thing to be that there is no standard for separate values or field in the tag string. Sometimes you use a comma (json) sometimes a semicolon (Gorm IIRC) etc. This has caused me several headaches.

Hardly. Abuse of power is easier the smaller the community in which it happens. Corrupting politicians on state level is much easier and buys you more power per pound than doing the same on EU scale. I much rather have ministers in Brussels decising my futures than the ones in the country I reside in.

Wouldn't those only mean that the account was initially created by a human but afterwards there are no guarantees that the posts are by humans.

You'd need to have a permanent captcha that tracks that the actions you perform are human-like, such as mouse movement or scrolling on phone etc. And even then it would only deter current AI bots but not for long as impersonation human behavior would be a 'fun' challenge to break.

Trusted relationships are only as trustworthy as the humans trusting each other, eventually someone would break that trust and afterwards it would be bots trusting bots.

Due to bots already filling up social media with their spew and that being used for training other bots the only way I see this resolving itself is by eventually everything becoming nonsensical and I predict we aren't that far from it happening. AI will eat itself.

Awesome! I had a look at making something similar but stumbled into issues with looking at file updates with fnotify as it isn't supported on OSX. This is the answer to my prayers! Will definitely add some notification to use this so I get a visual/auditory signal to touch my Yubikey.

I tried Cursor a couple of years ago and wasn't impressed - has it improved a lot? I only use autocomplete, not the chat function and at the time found CoPilot superior.

That slacker is already getting high and playing on Xbox. With UBI they will have less worries about staying alive and the opportunity to try things to get more money. UBI is a great insentive for people to try new things without there being a financial risk of you losing your income. Just check the trials and their results - people are more productive and happy in general.

It can be difficult to differentiate between those, because you can have meaningless sex in a committed relationship and meaningful sex in a non-committed one. I have sex with several of my close friends because the difference between platonic love and romantic relationship is not very clear in my mind. And I've had relationships that are very close and intimate where I haven't had sex with them because while some of them have been romantic, they just haven't been physical.

I think poly is kind of an umbrella term right now for a lot of different kinds of "multiple partners" type relationships. I am ENM (ethically non-monogamous) but if you're not familiar with the term (and most people aren't) saying poly is much easier. It is a bit like saying LGBT and including all the things that fit under the umbrella but aren't lesbian, gay, bi or trans.

I used Twitter mainly to follow fellow devs, industry leaders and InfoSec people. But after Elon made changes my timeline started to fill with politics and culture wars and it ended up missing me less informed and more angry.

Maybe that is the future for BlueSky as well, but at the moment I am enjoying it and more people I followed on Twitter are making the move.
