> India is the fastest growing large economy in the world Source please?

For a journalist you seem to be incapable of finding basic information.

Also, you are too misinformed to be a journalist. Are you sure you are not some frustrated kid grounded by his parents ?

>If certain companies and politically linked builders are building then that does not mean country is progressing.

You nincompoop they are generating employment, building infrastructure and it is for growth of the country.

If you have money create a business and give jobs instead of sh!tt!ng on HN with your AAM AADMI Party wh0ring.

You are not a journalist, you are a hack. You are not presenting a balanced opinion.

You are biased and presenting a distorted view which you know is an easy sell here. From your posts you seem like a Typical Indian Redditor / Twitter activist.

Who believes they have great potential in life, have nothing to show for it.

So come here to sh!t on your country to get validation of Western people. Few HN karma points to make yourself feel like you have some value in this world.

The typical Slave Mentality liberal that exists in India and Pakistan. A sad gift of the colonialism. You should work for Al jazeera, BBC, NYT etc They like to keep pets like you to parrot their talking points.

BTW Democrat Party does fear mongering among Blacks and LGBT minorities and keeps them in perpetual fear and anxiety.

They use this strategy to stay in power. And that's supposed to be approved by the Very Ethical Western Media and White Intellectuals.

What hypocrites you lot are.

Next year the Trump fear mongering will start again.

And the Liberal Sheep on HN will get their panties in a bunch crying about how unsafe they are while earning a few 100k $ per year.

India has developed under the current Govt.

When the entire Left bootlickers like Al Jazeera, CNN, NYT were criticizing the Indian Govt in 2020 onwards - They laid the foundation for growth.

When your America is going broke and again increasing it's Debt Ceiling to pay for the survival of the populace, India is the fastest growing Economy in the world.

A Billion Indians can decide who to vote for. Don't need some entitles White guys and their brown lackeys in BBC, Al Jazeera to come and tell us how to lead their lives.

If your White Intellectuals had any capability your entire Western Economies wouldn't be in doldrums.

The wisest thing Western Economists are capable of is increasing the Debt Ceiling repeatedly and printing money.

Then bribe the dumb populace with welfare to vote for the same govt again.

Regarding human rights abuses if you live in the USA I wonder what makes it better.

People are crying all over every conceivable media about how racial, sexual, financial discrimination is taking place.

Millionaire celebrities are 'Victims' of a variety of abuse - Racial, Sexual etc etc

People getting randomly shot in a shootout every other day.

Stores can't stay open due to getting robbed as it's 'legally' allowed.

Kids can't pay loans for college, people are barely living thanks to shtty minimum wage.

Seems like it's common for people to sh*t on the roads in San Francisco.

Kids education becoming sub standard thanks to politicians.

Most of the West seems to be heading in the same direction.

Since you see are obviously comfortable in that environment. Please don't come back.

You can remain heartbroken in the West.

Why is the Title Modified to give a Political angle ?

@dang

Are you allowed to write that Democrat Party threatened to Blow up Target ?

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2023/05/26/target-store...

I am sure that will be downvoted into oblivion.

But that threat does come from a Democrat Party voter right ?

HN has an inherent bias against India and Indians. Just open any of the H1B related posts and you will see how open minded the liberal tech worker of USA is about India and Indians. Of course, they are all for immigration just the H1B brings up debate about 'Quality of Work'. Hypocrites.

--

I think the American Narrow Minded view of the World is due to they growing up in a 2 party system that only looks at things as Black and White ( Not the race ), as Right and Wrong ( that's better ).

They are basically fed what they are supposed to think by CNNs, NYTs, Guardians etc etc

Like Uncle Soros they believe they understand India better than Indians. Uncle Soros wants to bring 'Democracy' to World's largest Democracy, because 1 Billion Indians don't know what they should vote for - They need a White Man to tell them that. .

In their own Country they created False Accusations against their President - Published in all 'respected' mainstream Newspapers.

United States of Gaslighting is where they are at.

Let's see if @dang is open minded enough to do something about the title after 400 upvotes are already made.

I think since years new knowledge has been getting 'siloed' in various social networks and apps.

Faceboook Groups and Discord are very useful for learning a variety of things.

But the discovery of such private groups is not happening based on the content - like you might find a forum on the open web because of a question that has been indexed by Search Engines.

Also, the search within these apps is pathetic.

The content seems very ephemeral, I can't find really old posts unless I put in a lot of efforts.

Reddit has been good in this regard, especially when you use Google for searching posts.

I hope they don't screw their user experience further to prevent AI companies from getting their data.

-----

To answer your question, I believe the open web will survive.

I hope the more personal, less commercial ( SEO optimized ) content might rise to the top if the commercial outlets block access to content.

More likely we will have AI feeding on AI generated content that will be crawled by Google AI and recommended to us by AI.

Either we stop emitting CO2 soon or the climate is fucked beyond recognition.

Most would agree with this. Even school kids tell us that we should do this. The question to be answered is the 'How' ?

Please do enlighten me, how do you propose to stop using fossil fuel without giving up on energy needs of billions and derivative products like plastics and other things which are essential to humanity ?

Since last 4-5 comments you are saying that we should stop using Fossil Fuels. Great. Please explain the path forward.

Because taking an extreme position saying Fossil Fuels are bad and stop using them is the best solution doesn't work.

Sure, they are bad. But as of today the products derived from fossil fuels are irreplaceable. Like the list of products I listed earlier. Unless of course, entire society is willing to give up on these products to save the world. Sadly, that's not ever going to happen. People and society work towards short term benefits.

The challenge with saving the environment is people get stuck in these 'my way or the highway' solutions.

No space for any middle ground. No compromise.

Every possible solution gets an opposition. Because there is probably no perfect solution. Yet.

Nuclear was not the only solution. It 'could have' helped. So can solar, wind and whatever.

We can still start working on implementing solutions that improve things. But we get stuck on asking for the impossible, and if that doesn't get done, we don't consider any other solution.

Whenever work starts on something, you will get a news article having an issue with that and suggesting something altogether different. All noise. No results.

So how does this effect the employability of students from these Colleges ?

I am assuming here that a combination of College, Degree and Grades determine the student's job prospects.

Now an employer might value students from a particular college less as they don't have grades.

Of course, everything comes down to student's actual capabilities. But then why should a Degree from a college be required for a job when grades aren't necessary.

One could simply do courses for a lot of professions, learn on their own and apply to a job. May be after some professional certification that's not tied to a degree. Note - Not applicable to things like Medicine or Engineering, but can be to may other professions.

Since you are focused on fossil fuels you can take a stand and avoid any products that are derived from Fossil fuels like non-EV vehicles, Grid based electricity, Plastics, lipsticks, deodorants, fossil fuel based medicines and medical devices, lubricant, waxes, tar for roads, nylon, polyester etc

I am sure you will set an example for all of us to follow by cutting yourself of Fossil Fuel based products completely.

I just suggested Nuclear as it could have been a viable option. And saved Humanity to an extent till we figured out a solution. But, Good ideas don't stand the test of silly American politics.

Do keep us updated about your journey avoiding Fossil-fuel products.

Did I say Nuclear is the only option ?

I said we could have taken action decades back when we had the Nuclear technology.

Not sure why you think one needs a Nuclear Reactor in their house.

Anyways, I guess Nuclear sceptics know best. And thus, here we are winning over Global Warming.

We could have gone Nuclear and saved ourselves by slowing down this process.

But Greenpeace and other eco activists were outright against Nuclear.

Now we are still depending on Coal and Fossil Fuels.

So much for saving the environment.

How is justice getting served in this case ?

During her time leading the company, Holmes was able to raise millions of dollars from high-profile investors, including media mogul Rupert Murdoch, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Oracle founder Larry Ellison.

Lesson - Should always invest where the rich and influential are investing. Taking them for a ride, hurts their ego, and they ensure the rest. See Bernie Madoff.

I have nothing against H1B holders, I do however have a lot against businesses who often abuse these programs to suppress labor costs and dangle green cards as a piece of leverage.

One would be called a Right Wing nutcase for saying this : "I have nothing against immigration. But I am against businesses employing illegal immigrants to lower labor costs while taking away jobs from poor Americans."

But on HN it's fine for Tech workers to protest for 'fairness' when it comes to H1B and Tech jobs. Most people entering Legally on H1B will not get a Green Card for next 15-20 years. That's not exactly 'dangling' green cards.

A lot of them will return to their home countries after paying a ton of Taxes in the USA. As they can't be sure if and when they will get a Green Card.

But the same American Tech workers are all for 'Immigration'.

I guess, immigration is good when it suits them. Cheap Janitors, Plumbers, Mechanics and more Blue Collar workers. Lowers living costs. Good Immigration.

Instead, they each independently fabricated responses for 1.5 million consumers. The third, marketing company Ifficient Inc., supplied more than 840,000 fake responses.

So this is 3,840,000 incidents of 'falsifying comments' - not Identity Theft ? Fine is $615,000.

Edit - I realized that it's individuals in the first sentence, number of responses in the second. I will let this comment stay as is.

So about $ 0.16 for faking identity of an American and use it for lobbying purposes.

That's damn cheap.

This news piece won't deter people from doing this. It is basically an advertisement for these companies. See what you can do and get away with.

Most of the articles in top 10 seem to be about Ukraine. I understand the war is significant, but 5 articles in Top 10 ?

3 articles in Top 20 about Israel ?

They should work on how exactly is the significance determined, and significant for whom ?

The problem is that Vice kind of stories are costly to produce. And are not sensational enough to get a lot of clicks.

It's easier to do a typical 'Culture War' fear mongering type content and get easy clicks.

Also, I think we are in an echo chamber where if you don't report on comment on the latest topic, you might be perceived to belong to the other side.

The West seems to lump issues into "Good" vs "Evil". Leaving no space for News media in grey area to succeed.

I can't think of any 'Moderate' News source that is massively successful. Most of the mainstream ones can easily be classified into one camp or the other. May be just degree of devotion to the camp differs.

Exactly. But my point is that he won't have access to that data. As that would be the Church's expense accounts. The whistleblower was in the investment arm.

The whole issue boils down to these two statements :

Christopher Waddell: No, because then everyone would be telling us what they wanted us to do with the money.

Last year the church says it spent over a billion dollars on humanitarian aid, including food production.

Christopher Waddell: In any given month you may have an average of nine transfers going from Ensign Peak back to the church to fund all church operations. All humanitarian work-- education work, all the work of the church they fund.

David Nielsen: Money's going in and out of the cash accounts all the time. But Ensign Peak's funds were never used for any charitable purpose, as to my knowledge the whole time I was there. So there's a bit of a distinction here that's important.

I just find it funny ( from what I understood of the article ) that they don't have to give any audit the accounts and submit to IRS.

Let them not get taxed as a religious organization.

But at least the money trail is something the IRS and Government should be made aware of.

David Nielsen: I thought we were gonna change the world. And we just grew the bank account.

Ahh ... Welcome to the real world. That's what I used to believe long back. Later I realized that most so called NGOs are just for lining up the pockets of the management, and to help them lead a luxurious life paid for by the NGOs 'administrative expenses'.

David Nielsen says since it was created in 1997, the reserve fund has swelled beyond $100 billion …twice the size of Harvard's endowment or the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. David Nielsen: You could solve big problems with $100 billion.

I get his point. But there is a counter argument too.

I have seen some business houses establish Trusts that own shares of various companies. The annual income of these trusts from interest, dividends and profits etc goes into various social activities.

This ensures that the organization will last for decades instead of spending all the money in one go. That allows them to take up long term projects was my understanding.

----

The real issue is that the Church claims that they are investing money in humanitarian activities and the whistleblower says that they are not. But I think that the whistleblower might not have access to those accounts as those belong to the Church, he was with the investment arm.

----

IRS might be looking to expand it's Tax base. Taxing Religious organizations can be a good rallying cry for Democratic voter base. After the rich and wealthy, go after the religions to raise more Taxes.
