I don't care about any of reddits social features anymore, I logged out a long time ago, but where do we go now for the knowledge base of old reddit how to questions / recommendations / guides? Good forums with trustworthy guides are hard to find for niches you're newly learning about. Discord is it's own problem. I haven't explored mastodon / blue sky / etc. in a while. Do we have to find an old dump of reddit html, and self host a snapshot of days before the front page of the Internet went behind a login page?

One of the biggest banks in the US forces staff and contractors alike to install a proprietary 2fa app on their personal devices. if you can get a company phone, you can't finish activating the MDM, to install the company 2fa app, without first using that 2fa app on your personal device. Even a company yubikey can't be activated without the 2fa appp, which again, you can't get on a company device without first installing it on your personal device.

This does beg the question. For the 14" mbp, can those stands that heatsink the chasis give enough thermal headroom to compensate for the size difference, without relying on internally thermal padding the heatpipes to the chasis, and making it uncomfortable to use on a lap?

On the networking side. M4 max does have thunderbolt 5, 80gbps advertised. Would ip over TB not allow for significantly faster interconnects when clustering Macs?

I'm curious how quickly that trend will reverse when Google fulfills their promise to lock down sideloading on android.

Samsung makes nice hardware, but their bloatware is infuriating. I spend a lot of time on every new device, using ADB to purge as many samsung apps as I can. I'm getting tired of doing it.

Not having ai bs baked in is a vanishingly rare feature in consumer software.

The dgx spark definitely makes sense for some people, but $3k for an upgraded Jetson, with less tops than a last gen consumer 4090, does beg the question. Unless you're getting them to practice specifically on nvidia hardware before scaling up, why not get an m4 max Mac w/ 128GB+ ram instead?

Are there any 3rd party, privacy respecting, voice assistants that integrate with android? Gemini is staying uninstalled, and I'm not in a hurry to switch to iPhone. If I can pay once for an on-device voice assistant to set gps destinations, alarms, timers, and tell me the weather, I'm set.

I've had hydraulic brakes fail on me before when a line broke in the winter, this doesn't sound significantly worse.

Lpcamm2 rollout has been disappointing. Especially given it's potential. Maybe it's good for repairability in ultralights, but where's the 96GB module? Upgradability isn't really a factor when the upgrade path is only 32 or 64gb modules.

As long as it's possible, never connecting the TV to the home network, setting it to auto start to last HDMI used, and using a technician remote or HDMI arc control and mainly interacting with my apple tv / gaming console / audio receiver remote, has been able to suppress most of the TV OS garbage. Hopefully that continues to be an option.

Drm free digital video purchase doesn't seem to be a thing, but buying DVDs / blu rays and ripping them to a Plex / jellyfin server has gotten pretty approachable.

Being able to use my ipad as an extra monitor is one of the main reasons I always carry it around.

It might be too late for this model, but enabling the tablet to be used as a USB monitor, with all tablet functionality / storage hidden from the PC OS, or as a wi-di monitor, would easily justify a large chunk of the cost for some of us, and provide the tablet a useful life long past its last android os update.
