I have my childrens accounts under my main account. If they watch a lot of certain types of videos, that will show up as a suggestion under my main account. I'm positive its not because they are using my account, I watch videos with them.

Similar experience but I was in the military and I didn't have a choice to say no. I have 5 fillings. They wanted to schedule 2 more but I was due to be reassigned overseas. I have seen this pattern repeated a few times throughout my career. People are rewarded for putting out fires they created (metaphorically), but people who are diligent and don't create problems to solve are overlooked or seen as less than capable.

I think of it this way: If your job was physical, lifting boxes say, and you overdid it you would be sore the next day. It would be clear and physically noticeable. If your job is to sit, think and read and you overdo it, what happens then? How do you know?

I worked with Steven. When he was an intern I was responsible for reviewing his code. He was not as experienced as me, but he was smarter than me. I feel lucky to have worked with him, I learned a lot from him and I like to believe he learned a lot from me. Writing code, hacking wasn't just a hobby for him, it was part of his identity. The same as it is for me.

Totally agree and yet I still expect there will be periods of crunch time. I hope that employers will be tolerant of my shortcomings and so I tolerate theirs.

The implication being that the salaries offered are low. If they were confident that what they were offering was competitive then maybe they wouldn't be afraid to be up front about it? I've never had to hire someone so I don't know what the reasons are for not stating a salary range are.
