OS tools such as WP, Drupal, et al aren't even remotely in the same class of app as Scoop, or those built by various other online pubs (exa: Salon), nor are they "new", some have roots going back five and ten plus years in the respective org.

The conclusion is way off base and ill informed; early digital pubs recognized immediately that OS CMS systems and blogware weren't going to cut it and brewed their own tech (a few of which were subjected to attempted productization, which inevitably failed, exa: vignette storyserver), and nothing's really changed in that regard.

A former boss told me once, when I was in a fit of pique over something related to work, "Relax man. Everyone has two or three careers in them. You're on your first."

FWIW I went through something you could call a major bout of ennui regarding working in the internet tech sector several years ago. Came out the other end of it just fine, but I work fewer hours/wk as a result by choice, spend more time outdoors, and frequently invest some of it in learning new things. Friends joke that I am going to wind up being that guy in the Dos Equis commercial...

Caveat: I don't have a family to support. Woodshedding and shifting gears is great if you have the financial flexibility. YMWV.

At least take up gardening or something.

Yet another shining example of throwing money and time away to work within AWS constraints when bare metal and openstack (1) would have solved it cheaper (2) and arguably faster.

1 (if you insist on cloud provisioning instances, even though it makes little sense if the resources are as strictly dedicated as they are in this case)
