As a father of two daughters, I'm convinced the writers of Bluey have cameras in my house /s. There are so many times we have had a similar experience to one of the episodes. As my kids are now older than Bluey and Bingo, they still get excited when a new episode is released. We love Bluey in our house.

I don't see anything in here that I would call a "How-To Guide." This reads mostly like an ad for LinkedIn and then they threw in a very poor ChatGPT reference at the end to hit the keywords.

This was a feature on SCSI disk controllers. I remember one controller that had dip switches to set the spin up sequence number, and then you would configure the controller to wait for all the drives to be spinning before it tried to bring the array online.

I'm going from memory here but each Ultra 320 SCSI HDD had a startup current of almost 2 Amps so if you had a disk shelf with 24 drives and stack a few shelves in each rack you could do some serious power damage if you didn't plan the startup sequence right.

If you're looking for reading resources I found "Working Effectively with Legacy Code" by Michael Feathers to be very useful helping me build a plan. Yes it's an older book but that helped me appreciate this is not a new problem.

We've used Slim for most things these days. I love it for its lightweight, standards based approach. I can grab PSR compliant libraries from Symphony or Laravel and usually drop them in with not too much effort.

I used NetZero for a summer by setting up a dumb dialer machine that shared its network connection to the rest of the house. The dumb dialer autoconnected to NetZero when outbound traffic was detected and since there was no monitor plugged in no one ever saw the ads. Was a pretty simple solution for a couple broke college guys.

My team has been using the Slim Framework for years and it has servered us well. It is a microframework and follows most of the PSR standards so it is possible to replace libraries with relative ease.

I actually interviewed someone who had jumped from both previous employers in an 8 month time frame. In the interview he was very negative to both those groups and wanted to tell me why his ideas where so much better. My interview with him did not last long.

I have to think this is mostly due to modern toy factories and their standard tooling. You'd probably have a hard time finding a factory that could mass produce the old toy because that's just not how toys are made today.

Maybe this is more accurate.

Wow that's a thing I had forgotten about. I had an original iMac at the time and built a mouse mover and random site loader to trick the system. I think I made about $25 total because they shutdown shortly after that.

I use this Amex card for everything, the 6% back on groceries is great and more than pays for the cards higher fee. The last two years we've capped out the 6k max which is $350 right there.

Bonus, the card is clear plastic which everyone comments on when they see it.

Have a look at the Online Judge [1]. I've worked through a handful of these problems and they are good for forcing you to understand the problem and not over solve things.
