Macbook users have to do something like this when moving their SSD drive to other machine! Not very user friendly!

Buy extra cloud storage, buy extra connectivity for backups, buy extra desoldering station....

Here is your problem.

Some founders milk company directly on bonuses and pay, there is no "grand exit" when they go public. I think you may be subconsciously aware of that, maybe there is some hidden regret or self-hate etc... Continuing with this frugality may not be way forward.

I would suggest:

- get out of NY, some nice environment near sea or forest, work remotely

- prepare for your exit. Move out of NY to minimize income tax etc..

- can you actually become CEO? If not, it is not your business anymore, not your problem

- find way to increase your take-home money. For start you could pay yourself for overtimes. Maybe if you move out of NY, you may need office there and so on...

- personal brand is worth quite a lot. Maybe there is way to use this startup to build your own.

I had similar issue with BTRFS thanks to new faulty DDR4.

- CRC checksum for some blocks on fs was wrong

- I discovered faulty DDR4, replaced it, without knowing FS corruption

- system started randomly kernel panicking

- no msg in logs (fs died with kernel)

- eventually I experienced kernel panic while at computer, and seen msg on screen (broken checksum or something)

- there was no way to repair filesystem. I had to recover as much as data, throw away some files and start over on fresh

- I use BTRFS snapshot streaming in backups, wrong checksums propagated to backups. I had to restore from 1 week old backups

- Since than I use RSYNC backups as well

- And I test all PCs with memtest monthly overnight. It is also a good stress test for CPU.

It is not a laptop, but Asus PN53 has 1kg with 7 USB port, 2x2.5 Gb ethernet, 4x4k@60Hz displays, 64GB RAM and 3xSSD. I use it as a docking station while traveling.

Last problem I had with Pi: my keyboard did not work for some reason. Guess what, Pi has shitty USB 1.1 implementation (USB 2.0 is different stack), on top of that it does not give enough power to connected devices. With normal computers I had similar problems in 2003!!!

For serious use it is like Gentoo. You have to learn about its boot process, how it bootstraps from video memory.... Or how USBC power delivery is not really important (remember Pi4 initial batches?)...

It only makes sense if you are deploying embedded devices on midscale (~100 devices). For hobby projects it is a nonse. You have to learn completely new HW platform just to read sensor data...? Haha
