I you talk big, you must act big. You can't go around using a post office and subjecting yourself to prison time and lawyers. It's as simple as that. Otherwise you are not pure and sane and a real naturalist. In fact you're insane and a hypocrite living in prison for ~40 years.

I guess he is a hero? I hope he didn't mail you anything before he died. He had a grudge and took it out on random people. He survived longer in prison than he did in nature. Weird/Toxic lifestyle, IMO.
Big companies are also ridiculously overstaffed, as Elon Musk proved empirically. And many of them have only one thing that works and ambitions of doing more than will never work out. So there's a lot of wasted talent, in other words, but this ability to waste talent necessitates in person communication, just to make sure everyone is stack ranked according to the current arbitrary and probably mindless goals.
Neeva was TBTF. Had nothing to do with AI.
Then again, maybe you don't have much worth writing or much to contribute - better off letting previous iterations of humanity do it for you.
Dismissing an important skillset by pretending it could be magical is called clickbait. The advantage of knowing a second language is to be able to communicate and understand a new segment of humanity. This is like creating a paper: being able to pump gas into your car affords no general improvement in hair growth on your toes.
Eek, why don't we fix AMT and stop treating employees so poorly? This whole scheme is utterly repellent to me and makes me feel incompetent to have to read and consume it. Why so many stratagems around something that is literally incompetent?
"I don't know what I'm doing, but I will figure it out in a transitory future period" Does Jerome Powell run FB?
ChatGPT is just Newton's Method with virtue signaling. Good on you for modeling something you don't understand as a multi dimensional vector space that you also don't understand. Shrug.
You have violated the number one rule in Silicon Valley: If it doesn't take at least "N" "engineers" to "solve" a problem who report directly to moi, then how am I relevant? So I agree this is entirely possible, but no one would build this with any funding.
The fed generated money like Germany in WW2. Unfortunately people at tech companies don't understand the so called laws of supply and demand and just hired people with no logical thinking at all.
What bothers me about this space is that interest rates are seemingly not the right hammer to deal with inflation precisely and the Fed itself doesn't understand the relationship between interest rates and inflation (i.e. recall "transitory"). As a programmer, I liken it to seeing a kernel fault, isolating the fault to a certain file via a stack trace, then deleting that file and its upstream/downstream implications and hoping for the best.
My guess is the people who thought this was interesting, rather than just a source of reference, have never configured their own Linux installation. Sigh.
This is kind of a weirdly dramatic departure, as this was a union and a product that never made any sense on a napkin or the back of an envelope. Sigh. Hope to see him back on track and doing some cool stuff in the future.
Does anyone else find it extremely ironical that FTX happened in crypto? Wasn't FTX one of the things crypto was meant to solve?
Weird space to wade into, as wealth inequality is no joke worthy of tweets.
I think the real question is: Twitter grew 3x on the headcount front with a flat stock price over the course of less than 5 years. What exactly where these thousands of employees actually doing and why did the previous CEO think what they were doing was worth hiring them for? That's just basic accountability from a stock holder or employee perspective. That's apparently a ton of money being wasted on nothing at all.
Sorry, you lost me at PHP on MySQL for financial transactions. That's hilarious.
To me this comment is a bit naive, as the main point of hiring people in silicon valley for a public tech company is to keep people from working on something worthwhile so that competition doesn't exist. That's why so many people "work" at TWTR and other large tech companies companies. Obviously all of these companies are extremely overstaffed, as anyone who has worked at one can easily attest to.
I think this article could be more intelligently titled: "Don't post, read, or respond to things on TWTR". The linked lists aspect could be replaced with anything.
Definitely weird. The whole area is 100x more gentrified than when I attended in 2007 with a whole foods on every corner instead of star market. My guess is it's more about tourists causing issues than actual safety issues.
Nope. Tech companies don't scale like that, especially Google Search or Youtube. Adding more people just makes things worse.
Why have all of these remote-unfriendly tech companies hired so many employees during remote-only Covid? Is it incompetence or something else? Surely it would affect their culture, product, etc. if they have those things.
Has John Carmack ever been scripted? Kind of a weird catchphrase. "Gun that shoots bullets."
This article is a bit cringe. And it's a bit ironic that Levandowski is the one driving it, as he profited massively at a megacorp on the hype, despite delivering nothing over 10 years ago and then trying to hype it up again at a competitor. I've never seen a person's name appear so many times in an article before, so I guess he is trying to hype up his new scheme.
He's probably just ignorant of how bad things can get. Hidden files in a home directory is a lot better than what other operating systems came up with (random directories and the dreaded registry). I'd call it a win - the search over a home directory inode is not going to bother anyone either way.
Not to cause offense, but can you indicate his cause of death? This idle question has been in my mind since 2002 or so when I used his books in graduate school. Was surprised to realize he was already dead back then.
Language classification is a bit weird - doesn't mean that Golang/Ruby/Python developers are better than C programmers - just that the companies with better funding or better products are using those languages. So, in other words, pay is not based on programmer competence or language superiority, necessarily.
This is more of a generational cashout. Social security will see the same effects at some point. You can see it from the ludicrous vanguard distributions from 2021. Turns out the stock market was just a ponzi scheme after all.
Buy high and sell low. That seems to be the MO of 2020+ investors. People are taking losses on these sales.
