This is a common argument that we hear time and again.

My take is that this assumes the job - any job - that can be done remotely, can also be done by just anyone, and that there is someone in India or elsewhere with the same or higher level of critical thinking and IQ and who is willing to do it for a lot less pay.

But maybe none of this matters. Maybe the company is OK with a below average warm body in a 3rd world country that can do a version of the job for 1/3 of the pay.

Berberine is a natural over the counter alternative that is equally as effective to lower your blood sugar. (Studies and research available online that shows this same finding, I am not making this up).

I tried Metformin before switching to Berberine (I am not a diabetic), did it because I kept reading about longevity benefits. Problem was that since I was not a diabetic, it was hard to find a dose that did not lower my blood sugar too much and didn't make me dizzy and since I failed, it was easier to switch to Berberine.

If your goal is to improve your blood sugar then I suggest looking into improving insulin sensitivity via fasting, exercise, improved sleep, lowered stress and if you are up for it, switching to a whole food plant based diet (low carb high in vegetables to start and then open it up) this is the approach that I have seen work for others in my family.

Last but not least, get a CGM, fantastic. I use the freestyle libre 3.

I think you can still use Windows without having an online account. But this pattern is similar to Apple having your logged on to your Apple/iCloud account when using your devices.

Amazon is known for enforcing non competes on employees (especially AWS employees) who leave to join the competition.

Their CTO has been vocal about this on Twitter and a quick Google search will reveal a lot more details.

What about job offers that require employees do waive away some rights and agree to arbitration as the only avenue to resolve a labor/employment dispute?

If all else fails and you want potentially better customer support, I would give SendGrid a try. I have had very good results with them. In a similar case, someone from their tech support spent over an hour on the phone helping us sort the issue out. And it was a mix of things, configuration, etc

What I have seen work and suggest you try;

-plant based diet (if it had a mother or a face, you avoid it) -no oils -high dose vitamin b1 (500mg capsules, 2 pill twice a day). It is water soluble so what you don’t use won’t harm you, just drink enough water -omega3 (check labdoor for recommendations)

Start with the above, after 4 weeks you could also explore;

-infrared sauna (fantastic detox and for inflammation) -red light therapy (can find devices on amazon) -a functional doctor who can conduct a comprehensive evaluation and see if you could benefit from detoxing from heavy metals for example.

Good luck, I think diet and lifestyle changes including stress reduction will have the biggest impact.

Long time HN lurker here - some of the comments are being blown out of proportion.

Statistically speaking, these are called “minorities” for a reason, there simply aren’t enough of them in STEM related fields.

Diversifying your team/group with one or two female or foreign born individuals won’t dramatically impact the overall productivity of your team - assuming this person is not already a very hard working and/or bright individual, which many/most are.

The fact that this person made it to the interview phase and passed the initial filters (which are typically gender/race blind) indicates that they are potentially qualified for the role.

Keep in mind, interviewing is hard - for both parties involved, for different reasons but especially hard for candidates. There is a significant “luck” component involved.

Many interviewers are inexperienced and focus solely on finding ways to disqualify candidates as opposed to figuring out how a given person could “fit in” and contribute/help level up the team.

I ask that you have an open mind and show some empathy. We still have a lot of work to do to create a more diverse and inclusive society.

My thoughts on this as other Seniors have pointed out (and I am a Senior myself)

1- I have not looked for a job since 2014, every job since came through my network. Then the interviews were basically friendly meet&greets but super informal, not a single coding test or take home assignment - note than I always started as Tech lead/Architect. I put in the hours and took pride in my work, have never let anyone down.

2- Unless I am unemployed and desperate, why would I give you between 6 and 7 hours of “free” unpaid labor for an interview that might not go anywhere? A big part of the interview process is “luck”. I have many terrible interviewing stories; interviewing is hard and for the most part a numbers and luck game. I hate wasting time and for that reason I carefully calculate my odds before applying and put more emphasis on gigs when I have a sponsor on the inside or where the upside and risk make it worth the attempt. Which disqualifies most non tech non brand name companies.

My suggestions for you;

1- Include salary and TC on your job post (it will set you apart from others) and will attract more attention.

2- Shorten/Simplify your hiring process and consider paying folks for their time, at least $100hr.

I have interviewed at places where it costs $40 to park for the day, you are there for 3-5 hrs for a final in person round, but if you don’t get an offer they don’t validate your parking ticket so not only you wasted your time but also spent a bunch of money on top of taking a day off from your current job.

Last but not least, think about the state of the market, Seniors are likely older, with families and mortgages. in this market, stability is important, changing jobs can be a gamble, their offer could get rescinded, etc Why take the risk? This will be true in the next 12/24 months, what is the incentive - unless the candidate is already unemployed.

In my personal experience, the easiest way to learn a second language is to immerse yourself in a particular country/culture and interact with the locals, get a job, etc. Live there for at least a year. It worked for me, I learned English and it worked for my wife, she learned French.
