Because the big media and tech companies hate computers that don't obey them.

Microsoft, ibm, hp, intel and the like have been working on removing software ownership from the public purposely. They want a future where all bytes and instructions are encrypted.

From 1960's to roughly the early 2000's, all computers you bought ran local software exe's in plain text , aka you could open up the .exe, .com or .dll file and reverse engineer it and restore missing functions to get older software running on newer systems.

Valve, ms and the rest have been attacking us owning our own shit for over 2 decades now and they are trying to criminalize owning a general computer.

MMO's were rebranded PC rpg's, so that the game industry could steal pc games and not give us the complete files for the game we were paying for to prevent piracy but they really want monopoly profits.

You can find countless games who had their multiplayer networking code ripped out so game companies could disable their games remotely, that can't happen with gmaes in the 90's (quake, warcraft 1-3, starcraft 1 and diablo 1-2) because they were local applications. You got all the files and code to run the entire game locally.

They want to take us back to vendor locked devices of the 60's with IBM mainsframe, the internet is one giant Personal planet sized computer toa software company and our old non hardware drm'd pc's are malfunctioning chips in their desire for monopoly profits.

https://games.slashdot.org/story/22/03/25/0457243/owners-of-...

What microsoft+ big media companies want the future to be:

https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html

Piracy is just a scapegoat the corproate world is mass dispossessing the stupid and ignoring mmo/drm loving masses.

https://torrentfreak.com/esa-reports-game-piracy-file-hostin...

These "pirate" claims are just pro corporate propaganda, they want to eliminate software ownership.

https://torrentfreak.com/major-persistent-video-game-pirates...

Then see down here where tifca (intel, microsoft and the rest) is them cheering the public being so stupid.

AKA they know they got it in the bag from the days of ultima online and everquest in 1999, then we got steam in 2003, all those "software as a service" apps are 100% proof our species are idiots. None of these programs need to be split into two exe's and run over a network, so we're losing our privacy and control of our pc's and computing devices.

So the army of lobbyists is being paid big money to ban regular pc's as they lock down the internet with new 'trusted' hardware that hardware companies in co-operating with intel and microsoft have been working on for over 20 years.

https://web2.qatar.cmu.edu/cs/15349/dl/DRM-TC.pdf

Nothing, windows 11 is the beginning of trusted computing and the end of local applications that are text based binaries, they are building denuvo levels of drm into the os and hardware in future intel/amd cpu's and plugging the "digital hole" (i/o) to finally kill piracy, they are turning the PC into an iphone.

They are changing the executbale model to signed binaries and soon there will be no "Good old games". The idea that any software is "incompatible" is nonsense.

The "security features" are actually just content protection drm tech Netflix/google and game industry like sony has been working on.

It won't matter if you can copy files infinitely if they are signed and encrypted by an OS and CPU that won't execute the bits.

So no, windows 11 is the end of the PC as an open platform.

See here:

https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html

From 20 year ago, they've been working with hardware vendors to tpm the shit out of all the components for shit like this:

https://www.theregister.com/2001/03/23/ms_plans_secure_pc/

So thats why windows 10+ will be shit, and you no longer own your pc.

They aren't going to.

The industry has been pushing for copyright enforcement built into the hardware and OS. Windows 10/11 is the first client-server OS, aka the ultimate security risk since you all have been stealing software from yourselves with the rise of mmo's and steam, there's ZERO reason for any piece of software to require an internet connection.

Intel, MS, Sony and AMD are not going to give up on trusted computing. They want to remove control of our PC's to jack up software prices and force the public to pay for software and games.

https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html

There's nothing invalid about it, because you don't grasp that the words you see and hear are not the real language the brain uses to reason with. You think when you put words onto a screen or into a book you have any idea what your brain is doing. You do not. Don't think so? All the different various religious sects would disagree with you, aka the fact there are so many versions of christianity each with distinct conceptions of god means these people "reasoning" have no idea wtf is going on in their brain. That's reality, sorry buddy. Try again.

You're unaware that science advances and I do research in this field on the brain, reasoning and language. So you are obliviously unaware of the headway of cutting edge research that undermines old notions that you were taught about how reason works.

Sorry to tell you random internet commenter will never compete with someone who researches human reasoning for a living. That is why I know things that you don't and you think you are "reasoning" not having any idea how reasoning processes in the brain work. The whole process can be studied and reverse engineered and that has implications for "bad reasoning" aka much "good reasoning" that is seen as such will be seen as "bad reasoning" as science of reasoning works advances.

Sorry to tell ya, but you don't understand enough about your own brain to even engage in conversation with me about this topic.

The exact opposite is true, god believers are putting for positive claims, atheists are putting forth actual evidence that no one claiming divine beings has been able to put forth any evidence of their position.

You don't seem to grasp human beings fought over their imaginary beings for centuries and created all sorts of drama that had real world political implications, it's nice of you to theory craft from your comfortable chair in the 21st century but the reality is mistaken notions of reality has given birth to centuries of blood and suffering.

So no, your gobbledygook is not neutral, your not some higher reasoning being, you're clueless because I do research in this area and you can test whether words or ideas in language are valid because its a natural phenomenon.

Man I'm sorry to tell you, but your post is not even wrong. There are no good reasons for broken applications, when you have any client-server exe running on your PC you've lost your privacy and they've hacked your PC because you can't audit the code.

Game companies have been exfiltrating data on massive scale and gives them 100% access to everything we say and do, I'm sorry to tell you but we live in a global panopticon that you idiots enabled.

There's zero reason for any application not to be local on your PC, you don't grasp in an internet enabled world your PC is a chip in a global sized motherboard that content companies and intel and AMD want replaced and turned into a dumb locked down consumer device.

TPM is about putting copyright cops on your PC's, and all your beautiful local exe's will be signed binaries in the future, no more dumping MP4's from netflix because they will be end to end encrypted and signed.

Windows 10/11+ is them changing how binary executables work going forward.

From 1960 to roughly 2010, all cpu's were using plaintext binaries, microsoft and the media and content industries desperately want to change this to defeat piracy. They will not give up on locking down your PC, they can finally turn files and give them rivalrous qualities by way of encryption, internet and digital signing. Just like consoles.

You don't seem to grasp we've lost the battle and are too stupid to realize, the future of hardcore gaming on the PC was supposed to be level editors, dedicated servers and local applications, not logon screens, user acccounts and stolen videgames.

Because every "software as a service game" is entirely downloaded to your PC making a mockery of the concept, if Dota 2 and league require a $2000 computer with the latest 3D video card.

If I didn't live with morons these games would be normally coded PC games like we had in the late 90's and early 2000's before the stolen RPG apocalypse (Mmmo's).

MMO's were just rpg's with their networking code stolen out of the game and sold back to you as some "new type of product" the whole thing was a scam, to defraud gamers out of game ownership because the game industry desperately wanted to kill the local infinitely copyable binaries. You don't seem to get this was part of the game plan to kill "piracy" buy literally stealing the game from their customers. Can't easily pirate it (during its period) without the files that used to come inside the game.

That' why modern multiplayer that used to be embedded in the exe is stolen out of most modern games while games from the 90s' you can still play multiplayer because its embedded inside the program.

No atheists don't make any mistake, there is no evidence for a divine being with magic powers. No one claims that magic leprechauns or a divine spaghetti monster is "unknowable". What about the magical red dragon? Every religion has claimed spirit beings or divine entities, these are undefinable gobbledygook. Superstitious people put forth positive claims about the universe that can be tested.

God was man's first attempt at understanding nature in terms of intent and action, aka the use of our animal model psychology and misapplying it to nature.

God is a gobbledygook word that has no meaning or solid definition. Just because I invent an idea does not mean it has any basis in reality.

Uhh the red flags were there in 1997 when you all started buying client-server software. Intel and the industry know you are idiots at computers.

MMO's/steam are signs of idiocracy, aka you are bad at understanding you are getting robbed. That's why we have TPM and client-server crapware in windows 10/11.

If you buy any client-server SaaS you are a moron, everyone was expecting local applications forever until 1997. Even EA would have never imagined you'd all be dumb enough to buy incomplete programs where they take files hostage on a 2nd computer half a world away.

So no the time to be alarmed was over 20 years ago, since there is no software or game that requires an internet connection, there was no steam, no stupid fucking login screens, nothing. The public has told the tech industry it is chimp factor five levels of stupid over the last 23+ years. So they are locking us out of our PC's, windows 10/11 is building copyright enforcement into the cpu so future applications won't run and your bios can be remote updated like a console to disable any pirated software or cracked exe's that are found on your PC.

You all gave them this access to your PC, so why wouldn't intel and the rest just keep going?

See here on EA and ultima, and the death of games as local applications:

https://youtu.be/lnnsDi7Sxq0?t=1134

" As longtime poweruser all the dark patterns and user hostile behavior was astonishing."

Two or more computers in a network become and behave as a single PC, so if you buy any client-server software you are literally stealing programs for yourself. Because all programs are the same to a PC. AKA all programs executables can be divided into two or more exe's and run over a network it's called the client-server or mainframe dumb client model of computing and you don't want that because that's the end of the personal computer you own and control. Client-server apps are the ultimate security risk because you can't audit the code.

The last 23 years there's been a war to kill the general computer.

If you've touched steam, xbox live or mmo's, they are all client-server exe's, windows 10 is a client-server operating system.

They've been stealing software from 1997 with ultima online, how can you be astonished when valve and everyone were stealing PC games from 1997 onward?

See this patent by microsoft here:

On games:

It's not, the average gamer and PC buyer has been stealing software from himself for the last 23+ years. Straight, steam/mmo's are just back ended c applications, there's no reason for any piece of software to require a "internet connection" (aka a second computer) half a world away.

The 1990's were great because it was before the computer illiterate got internet. Everyone was expecting level editors and free maps, mods and skins

Level editors

https://icculus.org/gtkradiant/

Free maps mods and skins

https://ws.q3df.org/models/

... to continue in all the big budget games but that didn't happen because the computer illiterate masses gave up game ownership giving birth to all the evils of modern gaming (shut down games, mtx, always online drm, which is the same as mmo's, aka client-server back ended c apps). So we're losing game history down the shitter and games just disappear from history because stupid got internet.

Pub g and Apex, are just back ended quake 3 and UT2004, minus game ownership.

When the computer illiterate started buying MMO's (which were just rebranded rpg's with stolen networking code), the game industry started stealing PC games on a massive scale, notice how Transformers fall of cybertron a game from 2014, doesn't have basic features like dedicated servers and server lists like every fps from 1996-2004. (aka pre-steam, pre-mmo).

Once game developers realized gamers were stupid in 1997, there was a war on on local applications.

Don't think so? Don't think mmo's killed quake 1-3 and warcraft 1-3?

See here the ultima dev's themselves:

Ultima 9 was cancelled for the scam game ultima online, so there was no ultima 10, ultima 11, ultima 12, with dedicated servers and level editors. So we didn't get the awesome future of PC gaming, we got the computer illiterate dumbass future that undid the personal computer revolution taking us back to mainframe computing of the 60's and the average gamer is unaware of it.

Everyone was expecting diablo 2+ to have server browsers and level editing and huge modding, that never happened because they started stealing RPG's and rebranding them mmo's and just started back ending the shit out of every PC game, once they realized the public was stupid as fuck at computers.

Don't think so? We already had infinite multiplayer game sin the 90's with quake 2, until the shit for brains who bought UO and everquest fucked up the future of the personal computer and gaming more generally, taking us back to mainframe computing of the 60's.

"No limit to the # of players - JC, quake 2

https://youtu.be/TfeSMaztDVc?t=95

We could take quake 2 engine an clone all "MMO's and have those same games run locally with ability to host multiplayer from your machine with no logins, subscription fees.

If you have to infinity multiplayer videogames, one allows you to own it and costs $60, and the other has an upfront costs + sub.... guess who got swindled?

In what way are Google not a trustworthy company in your view?

Google "snowden nsa revelations" see all the companies sucking up all your data, the NSA and google and all the tech commpanies have removed everyones privacy. It's called "total information awareness".

I'm still confused by the existence of APIs like this.

They are locking down IO with trusted computing, there's been a 23+ year initiative to move to encrypted computing to take input/output control away from the user, this required the co-operation of hardware manufacturers. Windows 10 and windows 11 are the beginning of you not being able to run or play files or exe's over the next 20 years as youtube, netflix, the game industry update their software to use TPM.

This was from 2001:

https://www.theregister.com/2001/12/13/the_microsoft_secure_...

Here is a paper explaining what the future of files/broadcasts will be like:

https://web2.qatar.cmu.edu/cs/15349/dl/DRM-TC.pdf

Basically they are building a parallel mainframe inside our PC's that only youtube, netflix, the game industry and other software companies will control. They are removing ownership of our devices and they needed microsofts help to do that.

We've seen mirosoft trial bricking cracked exe's via update. Many UWP games only work on certain versions of windows.

See here (ctrf-f then select the UWP link)

They are bringing console lockdown to the PC that is why windows 10 had forced updates. That is why windows 11 was also pushing forced internet connection hard for home users.

The real issue is company ownership is anti-democratic so we can't stop EA or activision from making games in fraudulent ways, so we'd need to have some ownership share over the company because it effects us politically.

There's no other way then private power being co-owned with the rest of society, aka there are certain things private individuals and companies can't engage in. That is the only explanation because corporations have state like powers at scale which all effect us. So capitalist ideology is still the root cause, there is no other alternative. AKA bobby kotick can say to his employee's "make games with drm" and the employee's must obey or be fired, that is the fundamnetal problem with capitalism in a nutshell. If someone who owns a powerful business is a giant dick there's no way to push back unless you give up the idea of owernship being in the hands of one or a small group of owners that can simply compel our obedience to their rules.

Unfortunately there is no freedom under capitalism mon capitan, it's part and part of private ownership. American copyright law grants companies state like powers to remove your rights and freedoms.

The only way would be to either 1) revolt against capitalism or 2) try to reform copyright law.

But as we all know the US is the most worshipful of capitalist ideology.

Software coming under copyright allows companies to remove out rights because we never got any property rights for software and games. That allows them to encrypt binaries and make computers that obey them and not us.

So you could call the FTC and launch an anti-trust complaint. https://www.ftc.gov/

Because DRM is vendor lockin when you get down to it.

I 100% support youtube-dl and I want YouTube to stop interfering with it

Well if you've bought any client-server app over the last 23 years its a bit too late for computing freedom.

They are bringing console lockdown to the PC that is why windows 10 had forced updates. That is why windows 11 was also pushing forced internet connection hard for home users.

Up until 1997 every PC game was something called a local application, aka all the code resides on your pc singleplayer+multipalyer comes inside the same executable.

When you network two or more computers together, EVERY program in existence an be split between your machine and some remote machine and run between them as two exe's. You'd only do that if your plan was to steal software from a computer illiterate public.

99.9% of every "MMO" you were given is actually entirely living on your pc, they wanted to kill piracy and artificially jack up game prices because when you network your computers together they can monopolize their own products and inflate the price of software to astronomical levels (aka the subscription).

We already had infinity multiplayer games in the 90's in quake 2, go listen here at John carmacks comment.

(somewhat paraphrasing) "No limit to the number of players inside a multiplayer world"

https://youtu.be/TfeSMaztDVc?t=96

So no ultima online, everquest, guild wars 1 ad wow are literally just RPG's with network multiplayer removed and dumped into a seperate exe, aka stolen networking code. Because quake 2 already had limitless multiplayer, and ANY game can be made in a game engine. AKA we could use quake 2 engine and clone all mmo's and turn them back into local applications allowing you to host your own games and remove the user account requirement. Like 99% of pc games until Ultima online in 97.

That is why modern Unreal engine FPS games like Transformers fall of cybertron have their multiplayer "shut down" the public bought into the MMO scam that led to steam.

So we have an unreal engine game (Transformers FoC) (2014)

https://imgur.com/a/RxGQWdq

And we got UT2004 a game from 2004 that has more features then modern incarnations, how did we end up going backwards in time in PC gaming?

AKA how can a game from 2014 have less features then Unreal tournament 2004 and prior even though Transformers was released in 2014? Makes no sense right?

That's what I mean by stolen networking code.

I think stuu99 is off-base in several of their point

Then you're going to have to answer: why did we lose dedicated servers in fps and LAN in modern games like starcraft 2, and many others.

Things that used to come inside the game, Descent 1-3, Warcraft 1-3, Diablo 1-2, quake 1-3 Doom 1-3.

All those games had multiplayer built into their exe's. So you have a lot of explainig to do why multiplayer networking has been ripped out of games like

Transformers FoC (an unreal engine game)

https://imgur.com/oWeY5Ps

And games like Ridge racer unbounded

https://steamcommunity.com/app/202310/discussions/0/61282346...

Games from pre-steam era, multiplayer still work because they were embedded inside the exe. So you have a lot of explaining to do claiming "your mmo's" are special and I'm wrong, the easiest explanation is mmo's are just stolen PC games and they've been ripping out networking code once they realized you were computer illiterate/irrational to an insane degree in 97 with the advent of ultima online, lineage, everquest, guild war 1, asherons call and wow.

FoC is an unreal engine game, so why would we need to sign in to a remote computer to play multiplayer, when unreal 1, UT2003, UT2004, didn't require that? Or could it be those were all honestly coded local applications before the mmo-backend apocalypse infected all of gaming.

This is a bad example because Steam's DRM is notoriously terrible

You don't grasp Valve and the industry has already won any game where the networking code has been pulled out already acts like DRM, any client-server app requiring username and login accounts, or has some piece of code living on some remote server, means you no longer own your own stuff.

Valve and the rest of the computing industry is boiling you all slowly. AKA look at this list of games from crackwatch.

https://old.reddit.com/r/CrackWatch/comments/p9ak4n/crack_wa...

You'll notice more and more games are "online only". Diablo 3 is literally diablo 2 /w drm, they wanted to kill piracy.

Starcraft remastered, and reforged require internet to play, that means we've lost the battle. The public has eaten up client-server back ended games. You don't get that the whole point was to monopolize their own products and kill the local infinitely copyable binaries PC games used to be coded as, AKA PRe steam 99% of games were complete you got singleplayer+multiplayer inside the same game.

MMO's/F2P are literally just PC games with their multiplayer ripped out, don't think so? Listen to the ultima devs here, when Ultima online was successful, publishers and devs went over their entire PC game list to convert their local apps to client-server apps and stuck "MMO" on the front so they could steal PC games from the public.

https://youtu.be/lnnsDi7Sxq0?t=1134

EA killed ultima 9 when the UO beta got massive interest, that lead to the death of PC games as local applications, the industry from then on there was a massive war to back end all PC games, they couldn't immediately do that to quake and urneal because we'd been treated too good with Warcraft 1-3, Descent 1-3, Quake 1-3, and build engine games like Duke 3d. The entire industry has always wanted to kill piracy and Ultima online gave the entire industry the go ahead once they realized that many of our fellow programmers and gamers were irrationally stupid beyond their wildest dreams.

Anyone playing quake and Descent at the time fear the loss of dedicated servers and level editors which used to come with the games, we knew if Ultima online was successful that Publishers would want to back end every fucking PC game and that's the end of the personal computer and the return of IBM and mainframe computing.

"Signed exe's" and trusted computing is the return of mainframe computing of the 60's in new bullshit language but I don't expect the mmo/steam generation to do anything but froth at the mouth. When they were the ones killing gaming and gave birth to microtransactions.

You can't put MTX in diablo 1, warcraft 1-3, or starcraft 1 because they are local applications that run entirely from your pc. None of the code has been stolen out of the game carved back behind a user account and login requirement. Like with most PC games these days.

We're losing gaming history and generation mmo is to blame for their general cluelessness of the evil of mainframe computing.

Nah it's about control. They want to kill piracy, mark my words what do you think Steam, denvuo, and other forms if account based drm are? They are going to build denuvo into the OS with future exe's so they can disable them like they got on consoles, aka if you mod or hack your Wii or xbox, new games force update the bios and communicate out over the wire to brick your machine if they detect modded console. They want to bring similar tech to the PC, windows 10 and window 11 is the beginning of trusted computing (you no longer own you pc) and honest plaintext binaries. They are changing how exe's function. UWP was a trial run. When you crack a UWP they only work on certain versions of windows.

https://www.theregister.com/2001/12/13/the_microsoft_secure_...

" I have no idea what the solution is."

Anti-trust against intel, ms, and amd, aka the trusted computing group is behind the "internet of things that spies on you"

https://trustedcomputinggroup.org/

They want to turn the internet into a giant perosanl computer only corporations own and control and they are doing that by putting a secret processor inside our cpu's we don't have access to that polices and enforces copyright law.

AKA you got a digital dictator in side your phone and PC.

The last 23+ years theres been a war on general computing devices so that they obey hardware and software companies and not their users.

So the best thing you can do is call the FTC and we sick anti-trust on intel, amd, and the trusted computing group, they are behind all this internet of things bs.

https://www.ftc.gov/

https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/LSB/LSB10544

Signed binaries use will come into being with trusted computing, they are embedding Denuvo in the operating system, aka future compilers will allow game companies and companies like autodesk to sign their exe's and the exe's if cracked can be added to a list that windows 11 can force update the bios to add these cracked exes to a list that will refuse to run.

That's the gist of trusted computing they are building an alternative internet/mainframe computer inside yours that they only have access to.

Where have you been the last 23+ years? The videogame industry has been stealing PC games since 1997 with ultima online. Hear it from the dev's themselves.

Don't think MMO's killed local PC games? Listen here kids.

https://youtu.be/lnnsDi7Sxq0?t=1134

The real reason is vendor lockin, aka no support by nvidia, amd or intel because they are part of the trusted computing initiatve. The last 20 years Intel, AMD have been planning to lock down our PC's and close the platform. PC's from 1970's to the mid 90's were "honest" cpu's, or general computers.

Newer CPU's post 2008, have the elements of hardware drm Microsoft, intel, amd and the game and content industries have been testing. To get rid of local file access.

See here on the patent 20 years ago, aka windows 10/11 are the implementations of research that had been going on for 20 years to get rid of honest file access:

https://www.theregister.com/2001/12/13/the_microsoft_secure_...

Basically when you open a file on a normal PC you get honest hex values (instructions) that made cracking copyprotection on software easy because you have access to the raw CPU instructions. It's hard to make eletronics that don't allow piracy because all a file is, is electric charges in memory, and the computer industry knows this. AKA electricity is not scarce so supply can always meet demand trivially. So they needed to come up with bullshit to justify breaking CPU circuits without killing performance (aka "Security or drm"), has a negative impact on performance and there's also the worry of bugs bricking your system if you do it wrong at the hardware level... this is why it's taken them 23+ years since the advent of trusted computing research that began in the mid 90's to finally get rid of honest executables.

When you compile a program in c, or any other programming language for 99% of computing history you'd get honest instructions in the resulting executable and files for the program. The computer industry wants to change this for their clients, the movie, game, and music industry. So they can enforce copyright at the hardware level. This is hard without breaking a computer, and they don't want a repeat of the pentium fdiv bug that caused a massive recall.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_FDIV_bug

That is why mirosoft and intel/amd have been very very careful their trusted computing research and testing with certain big enterprise companies and consoles. Consoles is where trusted computing experiments in order to prevent game piracy.

All this to prevent you form getting honest files.

To give you an example of what's been goin on for 23 years...

Ultima 9 was cancelled (but then later restarted), AKA EA was planning on making Ultima 11, 12, 13, as local applications (you get complete files on your computer) WITH multiplayer embedded in the EXE, but the success of UO, changed the entire direction of PC Gaming. They wanted to kill piracy, this is the attitude of the game industry:

https://www.theregister.com/2012/08/22/ubisoft_says_over_90_...

Basic computer science 101, two or more computers networked together become and behave as a single computer. AKA every program can be divided into two or more subprograms and run over a network, that means you lose control of your PC if you take up any client-server exe. AKA there is no program that can't be turned into a client-server app, why would you want all your applications dependent on a 2nd computer in microsoft or other companies office when there is no rational reason for this? Since that means you no longer own your pc.

We already had infinity multiplayer games in the 90's in quake 2, go listen here at John carmacks comment.

(somewhat paraphrasing) "No limit to the number of players inside a multiplayer world"

https://youtu.be/TfeSMaztDVc?t=96

So no ultima online, everquest, guild wars 1 ad wow are literally just RPG's with network multiplayer removed and dumped into a seperate exe file and sold back to the public as if it were some new type of game. It isn't, it's the same game with fraudulently coded network code. They wanted to kill us getting complete games with multiplayer that were infinitely copyable like quake 2.

That is why modern Unreal engine FPS games like Transformers fall of cybertron have their multiplayer "shut down" because the general public bought into the MMO scam that led to steam. Steam was valves attack on game ownership and undermining local binaries. Note as steam grew, they started allowing devs to force update games to tie them to steams backend, aka many games won't work without steam loading, all pre-steam games work just fine minus "mmo's" which were the first drm games.

So yes the general gaming public were scammed and lead to the stolen PC game apocalypse we've been suffering for the last 23+ years.

So we have an unreal engine game (Transformers FoC) (2014)

https://imgur.com/a/RxGQWdq

And we got UT2004 a game from 2004 that has more features then modern incarnations, how did we end up going backwards in time in PC gaming?

They want to kill honest binaries (aka, access to raw hex instructions of programs allowing them to be cracked). UWP games on windows 10 was a trial run of trusted computing tech where windows update disabled cracked exe's, that's why UWP games can only run on certain verisons of windows 10. Windows 11 is that on steroids, Microsoft is lying because they know the average person using windows is clueless and tech illiterate. They learned that in 1997 with ultima online, everquest in 99 and wow in 2004. Client-server software is the same as buying a program with missing files. It's literally a broken application.

This is who they are designing it for, big media companies:

What is trusted computing?

TC provides for a monitoring and reporting component to be mounted in future PCs. The preferred implementation in the first phase of TC emphasised the role of a `Fritz' chip - a smartcard chip or dongle soldered to the motherboard. The current version has five components - the Fritz chip, a `curtained memory' feature in the CPU, a security kernel in the operating system (the `Nexus' in Microsoft language), a security kernel in each TC application (the `NCA' in Microsoft-speak) and a back-end infrastructure of online security servers maintained by hardware and software vendors to tie the whole thing together.

The initial version of TC had Fritz supervising the boot process, so that the PC ended up in a predictable state, with known hardware and software. The current version has Fritz as a passive monitoring component that stores the hash of the machine state on start-up. This hash is computed using details of the hardware (audio card, video card etc) and the software (O/S, drivers, etc). If the machine ends up in the approved state, Fritz will make available to the operating system the cryptographic keys needed to decrypt TC applications and data. If it ends up in the wrong state, the hash will be wrong and Fritz won't release the right key. The machine may still be able to run non-TC apps and access non-TC data, but protected material will be unavailable.

The operating system security kernel (the `Nexus') bridges the gap between the Fritz chip and the application security components (the `NCAs'). It checks that the hardware components are on the TCG approved list, that the software components have been signed, and that none of them has a serial number that has been revoked. If there are significant changes to the PC's configuration, the machine must go online to be re-certified: the operating system manages this. The result is a PC booted into a known state with an approved combination of hardware and software (whose licences have not expired). Finally, the Nexus works together with new `curtained memory' features in the CPU to stop any TC app from reading or writing another TC app's data. These new features are called `Lagrande Technology' (LT) for the Intel CPUs and `TrustZone' for the ARM.

Once the machine is in an approved state, with a TC app loaded and shielded from interference by any other software, Fritz will certify this to third parties. For example, he will do an authentication protocol with Disney to prove that his machine is a suitable recipient of `Snow White'. This will mean certifying that the PC is currently running an authorised application program - MediaPlayer, DisneyPlayer, whatever - with its NCA properly loaded and shielded by curtained memory against debuggers or other tools that could be used to rip the content. The Disney server then sends encrypted data, with a key that Fritz will use to unseal it. Fritz makes the key available only to the authorised application and only so long as the environment remains `trustworthy'. For this purpose, `trustworthy' is defined by the security policy downloaded from a server under the control of the application owner. This means that Disney can decide to release its premium content only to a media player whose author agrees to enforce certain conditions. These might include restrictions on what hardware and software you use, or where in the world you're located. They can involve payment: Disney might insist, for example, that the application collect a dollar every time you view the movie. The application itself can be rented too. The possibilities seem to be limited only by the marketers' imagination.

Such people are real but they aren't "total shut ins", a lot of it has to do with bullying and anxiety and abuse.

That and our hunter gatherer past, many people simply aren't meant to be corporate slaves that most people are.

Industrial captialism where you own nothing and in a state of permanent indebtedness to rich mega corporations and the richest families on the planet. Not exactly a high quality life if you are are at the bottom of the class structure.
