"Free markets" are a disaster; without protectionist measures the United States would still be pursuing its comparative advantage against Great Britian--we'd be selling them beaver skins and acorns in exchange for their manufactured goods. All of the protectionist Asian countries have done gangbusters in the last half-decade or so; meanwhile all of the countries that have had "free markets" forced on them (which certainly does NOT include the United States) have in comparison done terrible (think Africa, Latin America).
It cuts both ways. Take a heavily state-controlled market like the entire US system during and after WWII and claim the gains are due to the free market.
Sorry, your post is just completely wrong because this is not a market situation. The government regulates banks through the FDIC, and implicitly underwrites the insurance that is granted to savings accounts. Therefore people have absolutely no incentive to pick "safe" savings accounts, where there savings are loaned out to "sure bets". Instead, if the bank has been covered by the FDIC, the only thing that matters to a consumer is the interest rate--he/she doesn't have to consider risk.
This boat is a great advertisement for progressive taxation; under more extreme progressive taxation Perkins would still have the biggest boat (which is all he really cares about), it just wouldn't have be nearly so big or wasteful =P.
Sort of like how Joel Spolsky makes more money via the job board on his blog than via sales of Fog Bugz. Hmm, doesn't some other blog have a job board as well?
Youtube doesn't do live video whatsoever. And yes, Justin was the guy with the camera strapped to his head 24/7. If a site doesn't make its history clear, you can usually check out wikipedia.
Plastic is heavier than water; are you suggesting that plastic bottles degrade into smaller plastic bottles?
