This action goes against what it takes to raise a child (in the global community). Instead of looking at integration as an attempt to homogenize a society, we should look at multi cultural opportunities as a way to expand global views. Especially when it comes to language. I couldn’t help but notice that as soon as they could, after brexit, German companies eliminated the English translations included on appliances and foodstuffs. As a recent returning german/american I get many disdainful comments on my imperfect language skills, which I know, from my years of experience as a community organizer, is also a form of racism. Our capacity for learning languages is an individual cognitive ability. According to Germans, you don’t even speak proper German if you speak with someone from a different province...this attitude needs to change systemically. And removing the opportunities to learn other languages from the curriculum during Childrens’ early years, is exactly the opposite of what should be happening in the schools.
