I simply meant Privoxy appears as a single "application" for Little Snitch rules. It also provides fine grained rules for cases where Little Snitch is too blunt, and each can be quickly and independently disabled when necessary.

Traditional databases use complicated indexing and storage structures in part to minimize the need to examine unrelated data. hstore is better than plain text for JSON but a scheme closer to the existing PostgreSQL table/page/row/value hierarchy could be better still.

I'm a happy user of Tarsnap. Why should I consider this solution? Also (playing devil's advocate for a moment) what's the best reason you can give for me to just keep using Tarsnap?

Since you're on OSX I would recommend using Privoxy with Little Snitch (which is quite easy to toggle and tweak quickly).
