twitter is only valuable to established celebrities and well known brands who have already built a strong brand presence through the traditional mediums.
For other people, the masses don't care.
you can be an entrepreneur and have a social life if you find an understanding girlfriend and not some paris hilton wannabe. I tend to find asian women more understanding about work life.
crickets
I hope this is true
This is a typical exapmle of market focus and niching based on focusing on core competency.
someone needs to bring the choose your own adventure genre back.
i don't think blogs are beating regular news outlets because of some sort of unbias reporting. If blogs had the reach and power as mainstream news outlets they would suffer from the bias problem as well.
The true reason why blogs are beating regualar newspapers is because newspapers are trying too hard to win pulitzer prizes. Blogs give the same information but in a more convienent fashion that allows you to get the main idea with good commentary in a quick fashion.
So I think it has more to do with form and structure of content.
Ikea is a great idea. Sell artistic looking pieces of furniture that cost crap to produce.
why buy a frank wright designed chair for thousands of dollars when you can buy a similar chair for a hundred and no one will even know.
This is a good aquisition. I think with EA's connections and knowledge with making games they can make a lot of branded games for a lot of businesses.
real time news is just a preference. The market segment for that preference and for people who know how to get real time news from the various tools is still very small. There are still millions of other people who prefer the old way that google caters to.
News corp getting rid of google and using facebook and twitter instead to drive traffic is dumb. They will block out millions of internet users in the process.
The only thing I agree with about marks blog is that twitter and facebook are not threats because they do not compete with newscorp news properties in the destination site space.
I actually think the crunchpad will fail, but the only cool thing about it is the possibility of a launch party. The valley needs more parties in general.
the game is declining, but it made boatloads of money in the process. I think it will just make those branded games like rockband metallica or rockband aerosmith, but for a smaller audience and still make money.
your idea is great, but i agree with most people commenting your website design needs to be touched up.
mashable is usually the last tech blog i read because the content is not too helpful and most of it is just cliche.
For more knowledgeable readers mashable just doesn't go deep enough.
first off no smart investor would invest in rosetta stones IPO or open tables for obvious reasons.
Economics, business, finance is not a natural science. there is a youtube video where george soros explains why that is the case.
its all about identifying problems. if your product doesn't solve a problem then it won't be profitable. The bigger the problem the more money you can make.
Furthermore, you need to be on top of how technology, politics, and the legal system is changing business environments because these three factors creates opportunities that otherwise would not be possible before.
If you can make connections horizontally rather than vertically you can be a very successful entrepreneur.
10 million. i can easily get a 10% return investing every year and 10% return on 10 million is more than enough to live on every year.
recessions force companies to be more efficient even if the business is a nigerian scamming business.
Free is a tactic used a lot for tech companies. This is because people have to be shown why this new technology that you created has value. If it wasn't free then it is like you telling someone i have this cool website that can make you more productive, give me $20 to find out if it works for you. Most people won't pay for that because they are happy with what they are currently doing.
Look at skype. If skype was not free no one would care to try it because the available options are just as good.
thanks for the good information
marketing is the most important part of any business from software to products. Marketing creates demand for a product. Peter thiel has always said the most important part of any internet business is distribution. If people don't know about your product and does not know why they should use it then it will go out of business.
Case and point: twitter vs plurk. both are basically the same thing, but twitter is going to put plurk out of business because twitter markets itself better.
america leads the way in value added manufacturing, ie airplanes and china focuses on low level things like pens, toys, etc.
in terms of who makes more money in manufacturing its acutually america.
based on current stats 60% of twitter's quit after the first month. Using the theme of the the article its probably because twitter doesn't do enough to fulfill their narcassistic needs. For instance, on facebook when they update they get comments and responses the make them feel good and make them use the service more. On twitter not so much because twitter hasn't experienced the network effect yet, where all the people's friends are not on the system and other users don't see the value in following you since you are a nobody. This means you have no followers and no one commenting on your boring life and ideas.
This explains why the people with the highest amount of followers are celebrities or famous brands. Regular people don't use it because they don't get responses back bec. no one knows who you are and why your tweets matter.
i guess fox news has got the formula down. you for forgot bill oreilly.
i believe it will be to early for zynga to get an IPO. Since their success will depend on the success of the social platforms they program for namely facebook. If these social platforms can't monetize then zynga's value goes down big time. Also, if facebook fails web 2.0 fails. failure of facebook will have a large affect on confidence on the social web and media.
wtf why the hell did people vote my shit down. cyberattacks from china is the new threat in future wars and the pentagon needs talented americans to prepare and combat it. Its an inconveinent truth.

makes sense, enemies of the future are aiming to attack our connectivity in the field of battle( so we can't coordinate a war) and cyber attacks to steal information. Cough cough china.
that's the reason why macrofund managers, like george soros are called speculators.
