For the past 2+ years I've been working on this project on and off (mostly off as of late, but I'd love to get back into it again)

MusicLink - a third party music app that does song matchup across streaming services. You can message a friend a link to a song and the app will automatically translate the link to their preferred streaming service. No more getting links to songs on services you don't have and manually looking up music.

That's the core functionality but I'm also building in generative playlists & music discovery tools.

Would you mind telling me how you enabled it? I just downloaded specifically for this feature and I haven't been able to figure it out just yet

I don't have one myself but I do like Eufy. I have a few security cameras by them and they store everything locally + still work fine when I block them from communicating outside the local network

Can I ask why it's free? Seems like a great tool but I don't see any obvious monetization (which raises privacy concerns)

Hey Ted, I currently use google domains and while I'm pretty happy with that one service I would like to switch away from Google entirely and that is one of the last services of theirs I use. What case can you make for why I should switch to namecheap?

That is not at all what is happening here. They are not 'remotely editing' your hardware any more than a corporate website who puts a support banner on their website for some cause. Siri, much like websites, is a service. Like a website, you are free to not use it if you so choose. Nothing has changed on your device, and if anything this is less of a feature than a banner on a website because you have to specifically invoke these actions.

I would love to get rid of my Echos and lock down my network, but I can't find a self-hosted & open source smart home voice solution that can match the Alexa ecosystem. I do have my smart home on a separate network that's highly monitored, but I really wish I could completely lock it down so it couldn't talk to the outside world at all. I would be totally willing to pay for a self-hosted solution to Alexa just for smart home automation/control

On a serious note, I do agree with you. oftentimes things are overcomplicated just for the sake of 'javascript'. Once you get used to setting up a project a certain way you may not stop to consider whether or not it's the best for the specific project.

Wonder if you can get one official one and cut out the rfid chip, install it permanently in the fridge

Literally the day Firefox finds the way to be able to use all my passwords in keychain/suggest and generate new ones, I'm switching to it full time. I loved safari, but killing extensions is crossing a line.

The dev tools available in the Firefox developer edition are honestly way better than chrome's in every possible way (as far as I'm concerned) recently switched myself and couldn't be happier!

I found a vulnerability in linkedIn a few years back that allowed anyone to access a private profile (because client side validation was enough for them I guess..?)

They didn't take my report seriously (still not completely patched) and I feel like that told me all I needed to know about their security practices.

Apple protects the message in transit. What you are talking about is the equivalent of letting someone borrow your phone, then getting mad when your carrier delivers sms messages to your phone number while someone else was holding your phone. Apple has done their part, it's up to the users to enforce security of their endpoints as well.
