Having one clear short term goal after another may sound to freedom for some people.
It takes much less time to learn it at a playable level than tennis. In my opinion, learning tennis and being able to hit a powerful drive is much more rewarding, but nowadays people don’t want to “waste” time in improving technique.

My experience is that each question I ask or point I make produces an answer that validates my thinking. After two or three iterations in a row in this style I end up distrusting everything.

I understand this feeling. When I was younger I took a lot of time preparing and taking meaningless random pictures.
Years later I started taking pictures only with the people I was with.
Nowadays that smartphones got much better, I just start recording a video of the moments I think will be worth remembering, but without paying much attention to the frame, I just record and that’s it.
Years later when you watch them it feels much more vivid than watching a still dead photo.

Absolutely agree… I think in early 2000 they found a nice sweet spot where you bought a set to build a particular object, but all of them featured a fairly common set of pieces. So after a while of having it in the shelve it could be repurposed.

I agree, and also I enjoy the attitude. While in my profession the postmortems goal is finding who to blame, here the attitude is towards preventing it to happen again, no matter what. Or at least that’s how I feel.
I think the best city for this is Budapest, which in addition to swimming pools it has termal waters. Very nice to go during winter months.
