I really appreciate both HA and ESPHome. The only gotcha I have encountered with ESPHome involved lost data with higher sampling rates (1 sample/0.2 second). To this day I am not sure what the issue was. I had better results with arduino framework vs esp-idf. Apart from that, it really does make spinning up a new sensor so easy and the OTA updates are excellent.

Yes.. It is near impossible to change a phone number for most accounts. My US banks would not allow for the same amount of digits as my European phone number had. Wiring money from my own accounts wanted to send a 4 digit pin to my US number which would not work in France. You seem to imply that in 2023, we are not capable of making a banking application accept more than one format of phone number. And the fact that google cannot figure out I live in another country (and I have to enter a bank card with address in an app store or else I am blocked from certain apps) is laughable.

I love the idea of clean energy. But the energy "sobriety" we have been experiencing this year in France particularly has been painful. TF1 educated the population on the nightly news on how to block our door jams to not lose energy and warmth. Villages were creating centers for people to go and stay warm. Boulangeries have been shutting down because they cannot afford the still increasing cost of energy. Whatever the plan is, it currently isn't working.

The point is that Europe does not have energy in general figured out. If I am being told I can be fined for having my thermostat higher than 19C (true for children school also), than we are far from that statement.

Is this why we were having energy shortages during the winter time and there was a rush to get the nuclear reactors back online in France ? I don't consider that having, "it figured out". If you want to discuss prices.. my place of employment is paying millions more euro this year than last. The increase in energy cost is also leading to increase in water costs.. We moved to another country and changing everything from my location in the google play store (requires a form of payment from the new country) to opening a second PayPal account with another email was painful. There are many areas of DFW that are not safe. Perhaps if you don't leave Preston Hollow, Highland Park or Mckinney.. But, there are many parts of the city that I wouldn't want to be on a Friday night (and definitely not my wife and kids). Very true. The optional part comes in with the itemization of items in the hospital room like baby diapers or a tylenol. I would definitely bring my own if I knew the hospital would bill me (or my insurance), 800$ for a tylenol. I live in France now, so it is a different story (doctor shortage currently)..

I hope this succeeds. My daughter was born with many medical issues and understanding the billing was always near impossible. Nothing could be gleaned from the bills which would arrive 6 months to a year later (sometimes 2 years) from the insurance company. In what world can I not know the price of something before hand? If I go to a restaurant and see hamburgers cost 6000$, I wouldn't buy one. But with medical it is always a surprise.

Non-trivial amounts of time? When I lived in the US, I would wake up and be at the DL location (Dallas Tx) at 5am. Not fun but doable and I would have my temporary ID the same day. I live in France now. It took me 9 months to receive a DL.. So a few hours waiting in line in the US is not so bad. So for me, the arguement that it is too time consuming to 'access' a form of identification is not reality. It sucks, it isn't fun. But you can get it done same day by sacrificing a little sleep. For a small fee I might add.

I have used Grafana in conjunction with Influxdb (1.x & 2.x), postgresql, mssql and mariadb with little issue for ~5 years. I have not dipped my toes in the water experimenting with the log aggregators. Some of the 3rd party plugins have been difficult to use and there are some odd bugs here and there (histograms on older versions finding the proper xmin and xmax). What specifically has been confusing?
