Huawei is allegedly opting for an android based OS. which takes off the biggest drawback of alt OS, android app compatibility. you can just side load via apk a normal app and you are good to go (given zero dependency on GS etc...)

My guess for the worst case scenario is that huawei would develop a new OS from AOSP to completely detach itself from Google. that would actually work, those who want google can side load it (if the bootlader is unlocked of corse), the otheers will use it as it is. Lot of people would love that, an android without google. we just might be underestimating that market.

Huawei is the 2nd largest smartphone vendor in the world. If it switches to something else android may not have the endorsement it once had and people will probably be tempted to try the other OS, IMHO.

As much as I would love to see some fresh air in the android market but I'm gonna be pragmatic. I've got a P20 and it's a hell of a device. Nonetheless we can see that huawei cup of coffee is definitely not software/UX development. Yes their night mode photo mode is kickass but everything else is awfully put. Settings section is a mess, photo gallery organization is a mess, UI used are from the 20th century sometimes lol. It got better with updates but it is still IMHO below acceptable. I don't think they've got a shot at penetrating that market not in the sort term anyway

As always medium articles are more about eloquence rather than facts. Huawei makes its own cpus Hisilicon, and I'm pretty sure they make their own proprietary modems, I mean they are the nr 1 telecom company in the world and even if for some reason they don't, mediatek makes modems which they have sold previously to apple. So the real problem here are Google services for the. Global market. Hardware wise, huawei got the hold of it IMHO. Sorry in advance for any linguistic mistakes, I'm not a native English speaker.
