Thank you for this! I've had a long and stressful history with Signal around retaining my chat histories. I recently managed to decrypt some old locked backups and merge them together to use on my android phone, but for 2020 I used an iPhone and have had to keep that old phone around just to keep my chat history. I'm looking forwards to trying this method out.

I used a heavily modified build of DWM for years, but when I discovered Regolith I moved to that. There is a third party project porting it to Arch.

Echoing a few other comments here, regolith is just super convenient having sane defaults out of the box, along with all the other conveniences of having a desktop environment.

When you full screen some windows that have window decorators turned on (like browsers) then they show the minimise, close, maximise buttons. However, I always try to use the built in hot keys for closing a program rather than unceremoniously killing them with the close client hotkey.

My 2c - my company has been using it for nearly 4 years and while it does some things well, the task management, especially around subtasks and linked tasks is very clunky. Kinda valid criticism for the whole of Phabricator. Everything is markdown which is useful for people proficient with it, but 1. The devs refused to make a monospace font default (a no brainer for markdown!! How else can you sanely create tables?) and 2. Refused to add a WYSIWYG editor which made it very hard to get non technical users to heavily document well (tables again! They’re an amazing way to represent heaps of different types of info on a task, why are they not super easy to use?). This ties in with the rest of the software, in particular wikis which are a huge pain to manage.

I’ve been looking for various software for a while as a potential replacement, and after looking at a variety of open source tools for different parts of our devops process (code hosting, CI, ticketing) I’ve realised that, bigger more well known projects have the best integrations with other tools by far, and also due to their integration between features have the least friction when using day to day.

I’ve lately been looking to GitLab, which looks like it has the middle ground between simplicity of task management, and complexity with a billion features and concepts like Jira. Does anyone who has used it extensively have any experiences to share?

This looks fantastic! Having documentation like this right next to the code should help a lot with context, and with enforcing devs to actually document their work as they go along.

I’d like to know what the business model is? Do you plan on Charging at some point? Is there any telemetry or anything uploaded without explicit user knowledge? I’d be very interested in trying this out but am a bit concerned about having documentation for our IP uploaded to some random servers.

It’s next to impossible to actually get into the country at this point in any case. The whole of Australia is only allowing in 1500 people per week into hotel quarantine - a drop from over 3000 heavily lobbied for by the QLD premier who went to the olympics and then thought that she deserved one of the 214 places per day for the whole country more than one of the tens of thousands of Australians who are desperate to get home at the moment.

Meanwhile as mentioned in other comments we are letting in celebrities and sports players - we hosted the bloody tennis early this year and recently in Melbourne there were multiple large sporting events with international teams - why the hell are the government allowing these players to take valuable spots? Not to mention we come out of a serious lockdown and then they immediately allow 20-80 THOUSAND people to go to the stadiums… where there were several covid transmissions.

Screw this countries leadership. I’m in a long distance relationship with someone overseas and there is zero consideration for the severe mental health impacts that this has had on myself and my partner, and zero response to the thousands of other people in a situation similar to mine, or that of people with sick relatives, be it if they need to leave Australia to visit or non Australians arriving into the country. Just one reason why I hate this country and it’s absolutely moronic conservative government filled with literal rapists, Hillsong religious nut jobs, homophobes, bigots, and people who funnel our wealth directly into the pockets of billionaires.

I would strongly consider using this if I were able to self host the sync storage rather than store my (potentially sensitive) bash history on GitHub.

I can only speak to Frankfurt (am Main) and Munich, but particularly in the last week as weather has improved the general public’s concern towards the virus seems to be very low. Shopping areas are swamped with people, walking around in groups, queueing outside stores with very little regard for keeping even a polite distance from other people (even without a pandemic). Anecdotally, in a train Station on Friday I was waiting outside a bubble tea shop for around 10 minutes, and perhaps 5-10% of people were wearing masks properly (if at all) and even attempting to keep more than a metre distance from other people.

Bars and clubs have for some reason re-opened contrary to rules set by the local governments, I have seen 0 proactive or reactive enforcement of any rules by police or other authorities.

Some places are enforcing mask use, in supermarkets for example every customer is required to wear a mask and take a trolley to try and keep distance between customers, but the number of people wearing masks only over their mouths and leaving their noses exposed, or simply abandoning their trolley once inside and moving very close to other people is very high.
