Just checked 20 years of C/C++ repositories ... not a single strcat. Actually I can't remember ever using c-strings for more than args parsing or debug logging.
Tried to buy a Visual Studio license for porting our game to Windows Phone last year. Ended up paying $2K for a version that was able to build WP apps, but not allowed to release them.
VS + VA used to be fantastic, today it's just a piece of ... overpriced crap.
But maybe expecting more from $2K+ software (VS) than from FREE software (xcode) is wrong.
Not sure about the "fans", but us mere mortals are quite ok with the quality.

Running a large scale analytics tracking backend for a game on AWS (written in swift, needs some hacks). About 5 million requests/hour.
Pro: - Dirt cheap (pay only what you need) - Scales fast and large - Just works
Cons: - Getting swift to run is very hacky
Considering to replace the game backend (scala on ec2) with Swift on Lambda (plus API gateway)
ps: Lambdas do run in containers/instances that get reused ... unless they are idle for too long.

After struggling with a similiar problem for nearly ten years I finally bit the bullet and took 6 month "me time" last year.
Had to beg friends and family for money, but now I'm more stable than anyone else.
You need to step out of the system. Meds and therapy won't cut it.

We recently replaced all (~300) our 2012 MPBs with 2015 MBPs.
