Just wanted to take the opportunity to say hello and thank you. I haven't really made anything in juce worth sharing, but for a couple of years I was deep in the vst swamp and tinkered a lot with juce. I learned a lot from it, got a very niche job thanks to it, and as a direct consequence have met some dear friends and made huge progress in my musical "career".

Kleppman[1] calls it schema-on-read (json, xml) and schema-on-write (typed columns in an RDB). I like it over structured/unstructured, it's a bit more specific.

I have an ipad pro from 2015, an apple pencil 1, and a screen protector that gives it a bit more friction. It's pretty good for the most part, but since it's my only apple product, it doesn't integrate well with anything else I use. OneNote seems to work on multiple platforms but I never got into it. I mostly use goodnotes, and they seem to have released apps for web and non-apple stuff (finally). When I used it the most, the only export I had was as PDFs to Dropbox, which was fine enough but removed any possibility of editing outside of the ipad.
lol we get those pamphlets sent out every now and then. Of course it's related to the increase tension, but it's not the huge call sign you make it out to be. "be ready for war" means "be ready in case something happens", not "be ready for what's about to happen."

At least in the context of windows vs Linux, Microsoft is making it incredibly easy. Once again pushing MS recall, integrated ads, and user hostile updates made me finally switch to Linux again. I absolutely hated having a computer that seemed to have a mind of its own. I had a dual boot setup that defaulted to Linux, and very frequently I would be doing something in Windows, leave the computer on with programs or games running, and come back to find that it had rebooted into Linux.
GIMP (or Glimpse, if you want a more modern UI) or Krita can definitely do pretty much anything Acorn can.
I'm fairly certain that anyone who recommends GIMP hasn't really used GIMP.

How are they in general to deal with? I was in touch with them last week and there were red flags abound. They don't respond to emails, but would rather spam my phone. The price kept increasing from the first point of contact, and they finally wanted me to pay a bill where fees again were unspecified. When I asked for a detailed, itemized bill, they ghosted me.

What? 45k USD / year amounts to 40,000 SEK per month. A Swede would receive 30,000 SEK after tax on that. The tax percentage mentioned often includes employer's fees, something that ISN'T taxed on the employee's salary.
She pays about 11,000 SEK per month for her apartment. Groceries are 2,000 to 5,000 SEK with 5,000 being relatively high. I've managed 3-4k for most of my life. Less than 2k as a student.
So she has maybe 15,000 SEK left after rent and groceries. Add maybe 2-5k on top of that for various services, public transport, insurance, phone, whatever. Still leaves her with 10,000 SEK, which is a decent amount to save or use for entertainment or whatever.
Additionally, we have both allmän pension which is state funded, and often occupational pension, so retirement is in some sense covered.

XLR does not imply need for phantom power. Some XLR microphones do, some don't. There are XLR equipped audio cards for as little as $80.
I wholeheartedly agree on the point about decentralizing and modernizing education, and thank you for reminding me of this. We still have a massive bias towards academic institutions to work against, but the fact that knowledge is so easily accessible, and of such a high quality, is pretty amazing.
It's not just the terminal, it's the python interpreter, ipython notebooks, debugger, e.t.c.
The terminal was what came to mind. Besides, when working in a remote dev project, the terminal automatically SSH's into the remote, and if local, it opens the working folder. It's practical to use the internal one sometimes.
I tried out vscode for python now that I started a new job. I'm on linux for what it's worth. The experience has been massively frustrating coming from pycharm. First I installed the open source version, and found that microsoft publishes plugins that are programmed not to work with the open source version. They don't tell you this, rather, the plugin throws exceptions that some API is missing. I tried out the official version, and instead of whining about not being supported, it now just crashes intermittently. I gave up less than three days in.
I found configuration of code to be pretty annoying as well. Either you write json, having to google for things like how to format keyboard commands, or use their (subjectively) ugly configuration page.
The fact that I can't detach the terminal from the code window without some weird workaround was also something I couldn't come to terms with. I'm back in pycharm again.
And today, the once best feature for finding new stuff: the front page / popular, is just misery porn and American politics. If you don't already have a healthy list of subscribed subs with actually good content, I find that it's really difficult to find new stuff.
Yeah, ghost placement is what I was thinking of, thanks for the reminder! The approach you suggest requires being in the range of a logistic network however, while carried construction bots are only limited by the range you have available from the engineer.
There are tons of designs you can do with bots, some have built completely belt-less bases using them. They're limited by their speed and range however, so you always have to balance to the constraints of the tools you use.
It's possible to order bots to put out things for you without blueprints. You need a personal roboport, and some construction bots in your inventory. It's been a while since I played, so I don't really remember if you just place with left click, or some modifier and left click. It vastly increases the range you can reach when building manually and its an excellent qol upgrade. The more construction bots you have (up to the researched limit) the more faster it'll be, because they have to return to you to pick up the next piece.
