"Bush derangement syndrome?" At some point during the Bush years the New York Times seems to have been hit with said syndrome and devolved into nothing more than another partisan rag.

Bush is mentioned three times in the article. Guess how many times Obama is mentioned? Not once. The most powerful and influential person in this issue, Not Mentioned Once.

So what if Bush implemented these policies. So what if by some miracle they were able to prosecute and convict him. We'd still have the status quo.

Articles like the one above are the very reason I hold "The Paper of Record" in almost as low esteem as outlets such as Fox News.

How does the Feminist movement square itself with the fact that many women actually like being prized for their beauty and sex appeal?

I'd like to start a campaign called "It's cool." It would require some form of an indicator. A sticker or button perhaps? Women who like having their beauty and/or sex appeal noticed could wear it on their person. Posters with these women could have it on display. Men would know, "It's cool" she likes that I appreciate her looks.

Would this satisfy the Feminists? Doubtful. More than likely these women would be attacked and ridiculed for what makes them happy.

Unfortunately I have no choice but to deal with racist people from time time and am constantly repeating the phrase, "not all (insert race) people are like that."

The majority of comments from the illustrious Hacker News crowd seem to indicate we are disturbingly at ease with the Persecution of homeschoolers.

I feel as long as students are making the grade on standardized tests, there shouldn't be an issue.

This works out perfect for both parties. Whatever aspect of public schools the parent takes exception to can be avoided and the kid still get's an eduction.

By forcing parents to send their children to public schools you are in effect giving the perception of indoctrination.

- Their authority the problem. Increasingly authoritarian being the issue. - As they should be underfunded. Keeps their power in check.

The reason we don't have a solution thus far is the fundamental disagreement between those who want a total government solution(public option/healthcare) and those that want a complete free enterprise solution.

The idea of the government deciding who lives and dies creeps me out. If you are democrat remember power is cyclical and one day a republican may be deciding whether you or your loved ones live or die.

I don't have the perfect answer, but I know it's not either extreme.

For those who aren't familiar with the author he's Atul Gawande who worked on Gore's 1998 presidential campaign and was Bill Clinton's senior adviser in the Department of Health and Human Services. Another words this is a political piece and has no business IMHO on hacker news.

Putting on my tinfoil hat for a second. Wouldn't it benefit huge corporations to push studies that favor Intrinsic motivation.

Having nothing to do with Wall Street myself, I actually agreed with the theme of the anonymous letter.

The underlying theme being:

"We are super competitive and you are not. What do you think will happen if we are forced to compete against you?"

I agree with Motely Fool that they have a skewed picture of the average american and could use some humility, but their original point still remains.

Government loves when we declare something a right. It gives them the power to regulate it.

So now the government gets to make laws about isp records retention, anonymous usage, etc. I mean it's a right after all.

Also since it's a right, it must also be fair. No one person can have faster internet speeds than another; with the exception of government bodies of course.

If my upload speed is 128k and your upload speed is 5MB, well that's not fair as you can upload you political videos quicker and to more websites than I can in a given day, etc.

If palm ever got their heads out if their.... and released an unlocked gsm developers phone I'd be all over it.

The irony is they are more open than android at this point. Hell it's been rooted forever, they've acknowledged it, and still don't care.

Two more thoughts; IF it delivers:

1) This would be killer in education
