Why not? I am not working just to work, I am working to enjoy my life with the people around me. I am also from Europe so it might be different views, but just because I am on call doesn't mean I'm going to stop living my life. Work doesn't define me as a person. :)

I think it all depends on which location you are in. My location has been great especially during this time and people are offering help and also giving away food for the less abled.Also the other day there was something that sounded like gunshots, police were called and I found out it was nothing bad on nextdoor first than my local news site or twitter.

Because most of the time you don't get hired at FB for a specific team, you might end up working on PHP sure, but the interview process for SWE is general and they test you on algorithms regardless.

I have been using Alexa for years. I've been controlling my TV and I have WiFi smart plugs. It is super useful and it has never had issues understanding what I was saying.

I have noticed people who have issues they place the device next to a sound source such as a TV or fan or something and obviously this will mess it up.

I also don't understand why so much hate for Alexa. Everyone in this thread just seems like a Debbie downer, shi*ing on everything all the time.
