Gemini 2.5 Deep Think 12 months ago

I’m never the one to defend AI, but what do you mean? Is it the “AI overview” that pops up on Google? Other than that, I would say Gemini is definitely less in your face than ChatGPT for example

Not pressuring you at all if this is hard to talk about - but if you're open to sharing more about how you were affected, I'd love to listen

I used to be your daughter! Super quiet, got all my work done on time, was seen as "gifted", but would lose absolutely everything (and I mean everything).

I really suggest some sort of setup to maintain structure as she gets older - being aware of a diagnosis or having medication / therapy would've really saved a couple painful years in university for me

This discussion has been hashed out many a time. While they may not be an engineer by designation (PEng), the word is used often enough to refer to programmers that it is pedantic to reiterate the fact that they aren't "real" engineers.

I agree - however is it really productive to the discussion if multiple people are commenting the exact same thing every single time? Upvoting one comment that shares this sentiment is enough, in my opinion...otherwise any valid criticisms are overshadowed by this outrage over the name.

Are German schools behind? In North America, learning algebra means we learn to solve for x/y : solving quadratic equations is pretty much the ceiling for "algebra" and even that isn't taught until grade 8, usually grade 9.

Usually not - maybe if the name is super traditional, however first names are pretty much equal across castes.

If someone really wanted to find out, they would be able to.

You could misdirect someone just passively asking, however as soon as the questions got more pointed, you'd have a hard time keeping up the charade.

Something as simple as the clothes you wear or the food you ate or the mannerisms you had could "give you up".

Respectfully - I must say, I feel as though you have a lot more control over how your daughter uses her smartphone than you think you do. In my eyes, smartphone usage cannot be compared to toxins like alcohol/drugs/tobacco, a global solution is impractical in this case.
