Perhaps you hadn’t heard he was the second biggest donor for the 2022 elections. Might be spicy.

“Bankman-Fried contributed more than $70 million to election campaigns in less than 18 months, placing him among the nation’s top political donors. He personally gave at least $40 million to politicians and political action committees ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, mostly to Democrats and liberal-leaning groups, making him the second overall top donor to Democrats, only behind George Soros, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.”

I like how much thought went behind this post. I think it can be very useful to anyone looking to start in the kitchen.

However, it really doesn’t resonate with me. I was hoping to get some extra tips for min/maxing my kitchen time or some tasty slow cooker recipes. Perhaps a recipe for a macro and micro nutrient rich smoothie with minimal ingredients.

Impressed by your attentiveness. I’m sure prosody is a fantastic product, I don’t mean to drag it through the mud.

What I should expound on is that in the Jitsi server configuration that out of the box they don’t have good documentation for getting room size, participants, total number of rooms etc. I did find the Jitsi community forums where the Jitsi devs tell community members how to enable some prosody plugins. There was an issue for my vanilla configuration where I needed to update Lua and download 5 other lua rocks. Then the mod-muc-size plug-in needs to be modified and the nginx configuration needs to be updated as well. This is my rough memory from a month ago.

So it would be nice if Jitsi had a more out of the box solution for this integration, and I understand prosody is just a piece in the whole production.

The term is price discrimination.

Went to go buy an apple watch and wanted to try the different sizes and feel the weights of the different models on my wrist. I signed in and was told that someone would come find me- that I just need to wait by the table. So I sit by the table for 25 minutes. I inquire around the table as to who's been helped/ try to gauge how many people are in front in "line". I wait for 20 minutes without any Apple employee coming to the table to help anyone. I see about 5 employees standing around- not sure what their purposes are. I find someone in a blue shirt and khakis and tell them that I want to give them money but there has been zero progress in the watch selling, but there are other people in line in front of who also are interested in giving them money but likewise not being helped. The person issues me the standard retail apology without any additional information. 5 minutes go by without any other communication and I leave the store without a watch.

It was off-putting to say the least.

Yes, but why didn't they choose to do something positive and stress relieving? That is where I believe agency comes in to the amassing of willpower.

But I guess this is why everyone is having a back and forth on here. It arises from ones own philosophical belief on external vs internal loci of control.

First, I apologize, I didn't word my first sentence as syntactically clear as I realized. Give in is a bit of a loose term here. Instead I would say that a person should recognize their habits changing due to the substance and they would avoid over indulging before it was too late. A period of abstinence may be necessary here to reset tolerances/ align short term and long term goals.

Second, for your last point, the man seeks a coping mechanism for his stress, but does he lack agency and therefore colloquial willpower when he decides which cooping mechanism he chooses? (That's an up in the air question for a more generalized form.)

I view willpower as Harry fighting off the Dementors in the Prisoner of Azkaban. He thought his dad was going to show up at any minute and fight off the Dementors (a powerful allegory for depression), but Harry realized he had to fight for himself. Once he realized that he radiated joy and fought off the horde of Dementors.

As an aside, I believe we would be prudent to not give in to substances/habits that form addictions. You could say that John/Thomas have incredibly high willpower that they are willing to keep poisoning themselves even though they consciously know the effects. The dependence on alcohol was trained, and now they have an abundance of "willpower" to continue doing just that.

I agree if we decouple optics from genuine promotion in which an employee "manages upward" their true successes. I know that people are more nuanced than this and it's not black and white. So this will become quite tautological.

Game theory suggests this is true. Dog eat dog. But do you think this is because incentives are misaligned, or do you think that even successful bootstrapped businesses, if around long enough, will fall victim to this culture?

I like the dystopian outlook and dislike of UBI. However, the advent of the internet = civil war 2 is a false premise. Dividing the country was possible long before the internet existed. You can argue that being able to rapidly spread information accelerated the preponderance of these echo chambers- however- you can just as easily say that the advent of the internet has made the world a more enjoyable place and has increased most people's quality of life.

TL;DR with the good comes the bad.

No, the false assumption this article makes is that the models are the problem. The problem is how policy makers are influenced and advised by any inaccurate model and inability to learn quickly from it.

My point was that you can't have it all. "Inclusive Economics" whatever that means is never going to be "good enough" so it's a very easy basis for an attack on "Economics".

This article is full of strawmen fallacies. Paints with a broad brush by using "Economists" and "Economics" to mean the whole discipline.

Economists also often get overly enamored with models that focus a narrow set of issues and identify first-best solutions in the circumscribed domain, at the expense of potential complications and adverse implications elsewhere.

Can loosely translate to: Economists like to study optimization problems whereby rigorous mathematical models conclude that to maximize one variable, other variables may be minimized.

RT has Black Panther as their #1 movie of all time. The fact is, people have learned to inherently train themselves to use certain review websites. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/top/bestofrt/

My current rules - Anything over an 8 on imbd is a must watch if over a year old. If a comedy/action movie over a 7 is fine. For less than a year old I read reviews, and decide how invested I am in watching it. Fantastic Beasts 2 tanked, but I watched it anyway and enjoyed it.
