I love this software but I was completely sick of the 303 by the late 90s.

If anything, I think it got over exposed in the 90s. The sound is just so distinct with the slides and accents.

Rebirth was also the first really popular software synth I remember and at that point it was just 303 overkill.

For me, it was an acid house album in the 2010s that I can't remember that made me appreciate the 303 again.

IMO I think it is a combination of being a really great programmer already and then either not all that intellectually curious or so well read and so intellectually curious that LLMs are a step down from being a voracious reader of books and papers.

For me, LLMs are also the most useful thing ever but I was a C student in all my classes. My programming is a joke. I have always been intellectually curious but I am quite lazy. I have always had tons of ideas to explore though and LLMS let me explore these ideas that I either wouldn't be able to otherwise or would be too lazy to bother.

I had been thinking of buying an $80 license for a piece of software but ended up knocking off a version in Claude Code over a weekend.

It is not even close to something commercial grade that I could sell as a competitor but it is good enough for me to not spend $80 on the license. If you are facing death, no one wants the off brand, budget cancer treatment. No one is going to shop around for the best value cancer treatment.

If you have a heart attack, no one is going to call around for the best price on the ambulance.

It is like a luxury market. People shop around for the best doctor/treatment with no regard at all for the price.

So it is like complaining that a luxury service market is expensive.
