Also, in San Francisco a lot of the "paint" in the crosswalks is little plastic pellets melted. I have had my rear wheel slide out going over the thick white crosswalk bars. Best to keep off the throttle and roll over them. Same for the giant metal plates they use to cover up ongoing construction projects. They can be very slippery.

I would categorize their lack of action as "dereliction of duty", not "aren't big enough assholes". It is their responsibility to deal with apathy

In the Clojure world we use EDN (extensible data notation) which is a subset of Clojure. https://github.com/edn-format/edn

You need tests no matter what kind of typing you are using.

The best thing about Clojure is that it is immutable by default. Start writing pure functions that transform you data step by step until you send it on its way with a side effect. I don’t miss types much at all - immutable maps lists, sets and pure functions get the job done and it is fun to program.

Static typing fans hardly ever acknowledge how difficult the types make it to read the code. Too much focus on that one time when someone made a typo and there was no unit test.

the one that did it much faster is the better candidate.

From my perspective that is only about 3% of what I expect from a software engineer. Writing readable, easy to maintain code that is well tested, collaborating with product and other developers for how a feature should work, influencing technical designs, giving good feedback are things I value much higher than how quickly someone can write a snippet of code that works.

I am all for scooters that are not on the sidewalk. I am all for making it more difficult to own and maintain a car to help eliminate all the problems that they cause.

If you let the product team dictate every story, you are doing it wrong. Grow a spine and negotiate some tech stories into the sprint. After you establish credibility, it will get better.

I cannot get past the idea of having an always on, corporate controlled microphone in my house. I am not interested in this. I admit it is fun to play with in the office or at my friend's house. I know that my iphone gives away my position, search queries, and other personal data (same for laptop), but I turn them off.

Maybe I have just seen too many movies about Stasi (East German Secret Police), Big Brother, Brave New world, etc., and that ruins it for me.
