I tried a MacBook touchpad in the Apple store and I didn't get what the fuss was about. It has that annoying feature where when you click the cursor freezes for some period of time, which stops you clicking on multiple things in quick succession. It didn't feel any more precise to me in terms of pointing. I realise it has gesture support that works in close harmony with OS features, but just in terms of pointing and clicking it was nothing special.

Open about:config and search for 'wheel'. There are ~50 options for tweaking scrolling, including one to disable smooth scroll and ones to tweak the scroll distance.

Don't the two bits of code have completely different behaviour? And the code with the bitshift is undefined on negative integers (in C). So the bottom code could indeed be the "correct way to do it".

Interesting, ok. I am not sure above what you are suggesting is more secure about Signal compared to HTTPS though. In both cases you start out with an address (phone number or domain) which you want to use to communicate with a third party securely. You require a trusted third party to link the address to an identity so that you know you are communicating with the right person. With HTTPS you are trusting the CA, with Signal you are trusting Signal. The CA will have checked for ownership of the domain and Signal will have checked for ownership of the phone number. After you have established secure communication with the end party, you have equivalent guarantees of privacy for future communications with them using either protocol.

If I acquire a SIM card that takes over your friend's phone number, I can install Signal and sign up as your friend. Then when you use Signal to communicate with your friend, you are actually communicating with me. How is that different to HTTPS?

But is Khan Academy really so different to formal training? I mean, who is going to understand a Khan Academy video on solutions to 2nd order linear homogeneous differential equations if they have never learned any algebra? There is language in there that is necessary to explain it that they will have had to learn before.

It would be great for there to be more resources for learning maths outside being officially enrolled in formal education, but I don't think this has anything to do with the language used in mathematics being too terse or obtuse. Lots of good undergrad textbooks are no less understandable than a Khan Academy video, try those instead of Wikipedia.
