A couple of hundred people attacked the capitol in a crowd of 500,000+. Do you remember the phrase 'mostly peaceful protesters'? We've been hearing it for 8+ months after violent riots in major cities which resulted in 30+deaths, hundreds of innocent people attacked, and 1 billion+ in property damage.

Antifa and BLM have taken over multiple state and federal buildings over the past 8 months. In June, for instance, multiple fires were set all over DC. A church was nearly burnt to the ground and the President had to go to an underground bunker as a result of the threats outside the white house.

Unlike the protests in January 6th (which was an unorganized mess of random people), BLM and Antifa are professional rioters/criminals. They wear masks to protect themselves and have corporate backing from large left-leaning organizations.

Instead of concern, local leaders painted BLM and named a major street after them.

I'm not sure why you only seem to care when it's Trump supporters. Political violence is wrong on both sides, but only one political not only supported it, but paid the bail of rioters and continue to deny that it even exists. The real criminals are about to get into office.

You do realize Trump never said any of this, right? Him and his entire campaign have denounced the violence repeatedly. If you listened to the speech before the capitol was attacked, it was not full of any sort of energy. He basically said that it was all in Pence's hands. Supporters were actually angry because he sounded so defeated. This doesn't sound like the actions of someone trying to storm the Capitol.

The media+tech companies+incoming administration are censoring and destroying their political opponents for things they themselves have been supporting and instigating for 4 years.

If it wasn't so scary, I would call it pathetic actions from limp-dick journalists.

The people cheering this on will not be protected when the mob comes for you.

We live in a digital age. If having the wrong opinion means you can get your bank accounts and all Internet presence removed from you, it's not any different than living under a fascist government.

A random person on a blog is not an investigation. We needed a full audit after 100s of people came out with allegations. This would have put it to rest.

There were other allegations that Dominion machines were attached to local networks for updates during election night. Were they? I have no idea. There as no investigation. Only denial.

I personally have used dead people's names (with DoB and city) in a few of the battleground states and I could see they not only received a ballot on election night, but sent it back. How could this possibly happen?

This was passed off as 'fake news'.

I'm not going to repeat all of the other claims, but we had a bigger investigation on Trumps Russian collusion, which had a fraction of the evidence.

If I could put in a handful of names into a government site and see this, I can't imagine the amount actually in these databases.

The sickest part is that people just aren't curious. They hate Trump so much, they want to win at all costs.

After so much time has passed and state leaders have rejected any and all calls for investigation (and big tech sites have censored anyone that questioned it), even if there was evidence at one point in time, it would be long gone by now. These investigations should have been immediate.

The Democrats are now going to usher in some of the worst laws imaginable for free speech. It has already started with the de-platforming of Parler.

At some point talking time will indeed be over, and it will be a time for action.

Since you can't actually figure out the most obvious point ever made in a comment. The Dominion company used Solarwinds, which could have directly affected our elections after multiple companies were breached from the hack.

In Georgia, a security professional proved that machines were not only attached to the Internet, but were getting updates from servers outside the country and had the ability to be updated in real-time.

This was never investigated.

The Dominion company (behind the voting machine software in the US) used Solarwinds. It was plastered on many of their websites.

It was removed the day this hack went public.

We need more people to be working on solving climate change, not less. We would have viable nuclear power by now if it weren't for all of the leftists in the 70s-90s protesting its existence and making it a liability for many companies to even consider it.

The unintended consequences of this would be stunning. But I suspect if the people that enacted these proposals were ever around to see the results, they would shift the blame.

We also aren't focusing on the actual source of the problem. The US only accounts for around 25% of total carbon emission. India and China make up a much larger percentage, yet can can continue to pollute and destroy the environment with impunity while gaining power in the process. While economies shrink in places that have strict carbon emission rules, China doesn't follow those same rules and grows. It's sort of like playing baseball when the other team is allowed to take steroids.

..and before you tell me about per/capita and 'fairness', this doesn't really matter in the end when humanity is destroyed.

Amazon pays millions and millions of dollars in taxes. Most reports about Amazon not paying taxes are by people that don't know how the tax system actually works in the United States.

We have seen no proof that these latest Solarwinds attacks are from Russia.

I've traveled around the world (while consulting and needing Internet access every day) and the maximum speed just isn't that good of a baseline.

In Hong Kong, for instance, it was tough to find reliable Internet, let alone at those speeds.

In the US, there is reliable Internet pretty much everywhere and I definitely felt the difference when I came back home.

I feel like these lists are created to shit on the US and to point out that it's 'not that great' than anything else.

Most countries were unprepared, except for Taiwan. The government of China lied about SARS outbreaks and Taiwan has since had scientists that study disease outbreaks in China. Covid was spotted in December, but the WHO is under the influence of China and didn't listen.....

It's strange how the Chinese government: lied about the disease, allowed it to spread throughout the world without warning anyone, and purchased all of the PPE (creating a shortage and possibly causing even more deaths).

He was also being impeached at the time and the Democrats were too busy with this to care about the potential spread of Covid-19.

He also talked about hydroxychloroquine, which his doctor was using at the time as a preventative measure for Covid-19.

Was it a cure? No (he never said it was), but Doctors were taking it at the time and many were still were taking it before the vaccine.

Because everything Trump said is bad, it was equated with junk science and possibly lead to the deaths of many more people.

Trump has been stopped from making decisions every step of the way from the Democrats and then Demonized in the press (which spread false information to the masses).

I'm guessing your problem is that you work 8+ hours per day and have little to no flexibility. The only way to fix this is to change the way you make a living where your direct hours != the money you earn, like running some sort of business.

It may not be right, but this is why it happens. I know tons of people in the restaurant industry and it's not just a stereotype.

Servers rely on tips to earn a living. If the vast majority of the time they receive no tips/really low tips from a specific group of people, it's only natural that they put less effort into serving that group of customers.

Amazon is like a plantation owner for small and medium sized businesses. When you sell anything on Amazon, you have no way to build a brand as Amazon not only takes ownership of your customer, but they also forbid you from directly advertising to them. It can all be taken away in an instant and by withholding your money for 90 days+ (which is what happens when they take your account away), it can bankrupt a small business because they don't have the funds to pay staff or run their company.

I had an Amazon seller account and they banned me 12 years ago over one disgruntled customer that I believe was just a competitor (I had 100% feedback from hundreds of customers before this) trying to shut me down.

I've been banned for life. I not only can't sign up with a new seller account, but if my name is associated with any other seller account, it gets banned for life as well. I've tried to contact support over the years and it just goes into a black hole and I get automated responses with no help or no response at all.

This needs to be part of a broader conversation: Do we really want to give big companies like Amazon this much control over what we can do online?

Well, VSCode is open source. You can also emulate many of the same features as EMACS.

His problem is that he is so blinded by his ideology, nothing else matters. He is optimizing for this ideology (freedom of code) and not making it easier for new users or even the growth of the community.

I stopped using Emacs long ago for things that make my life much easier as a developer, like VSCode. Now, with the ability to remotely save code over SSH, I don't even need to edit anything directly on the server.

This is a simplistic view of our current Internet.

Google owns all of the spam filters used by 99.9% of all email providers. If they don't like your content, the majority of your intended audience will never see it. This isn't including search traffic. They regularly censor news organizations without telling them.

Recently, Mailchimp announced that they will block any content they deem unacceptable. They get to decide what your recipients will see.

Payment providers like Paypal and sites like Kickstarter also regularly ban people they deem 'unacceptable'.

The phone company isn't allowed to block you because you said something politically incorrect to my friends and tech companies should be no different.

The tech community isn't protesting this right now because their perceived enemies are being blocked and censored en masse.

Don't be shocked one day when you are censored and blocked and people like me just don't give a shit anymore

I traveled around Asian from 2012-2015 and my home base was in Taiwan. The people and food are great and it's a much better standard of living compared to other parts of Asia.

Some downsides:

If you are black and want to get a job as an English teacher, you will have difficulties. Most parents will not see your English level as equal to someone that is White. Racism is still rampant in Asia. Some people see it as a difference in culture.

Government infrastructure is still in the stone age. Websites that don't work, are non-existent, or just give false information. Bus systems that all work a little bit differently and virtually no standardization across the different provinces.

If you can work remotely and get US wages, you will be in a good place. I was able to rent a luxury apartment with a security guard for ~$300/USD/month. I worked remotely for American companies.

If you are an English teacher and don't know mandarin, they will pressure you to get an apartment through them. They get kickbacks and the apartments are usually really terrible. Luckily, I studied mandarin for a few years before I went and went through a real-estate agent.

I also found many of the western English teachers to be comprised of young twenty somethings that just want to party all the time, bang the local Asian women, or people that ran out of options in their own country (issues with the law) and thought it would be easy money. These groups give all Westerners a bad name and many assume you will be the same. It's tough to break this stereotype.

Many of the cram schools don't do their due diligence and just want anyone that speaks English.

I also knew a few people that got into bad contracts with these cram schools. They would require monthly training and the training would come out of your paycheck. You can't just pay it yourself. In the end, some actually owed more money to the school than what they received.

If Biden is declared the president, prepare for the attacks on Charter schools. He wants to appoint a teachers union leader in charge of education.

I predicted at least a decade ago that wide usage of open source would not only bring more 'duct tape' jobs (although I didn't use this term), but it would lower the average salary, because duct tape jobs don't really require as much skill or education.

It hasn't happened as quickly as I thought it would, but it definitely is happening.

As a company owner, why would I pay someone to write core technology when I can just get it for free and hire someone much less money to make changes to it?

The media also tried to say that dead people did not cast ballots in the election. I was able to find a dozen dead people in multiple states that requested and cast a ballot in the election.

Real journalists should be curious about this and actually want to find out why. It's very odd that so many are trying to deny it or cover it up.
