Fully agreed. Tariffs are one thing that Trump has always been clear about. He likes them, he sees them as beneficial and now that he has no brakes in this administration he is finally going to try and put them in place.

The way I thought about it, you have to roll around the larger one and you have to roll around yourself (+1). So if they are two same size circles, it's 1 for the other and 1 for yourself. If the other one has 3 times bigger radius, it is 3 for the bigger one and 1 for yourself. Etc.

The point is that they are getting updates, not because NASA paid 865 million in 1970s but because it is doing scientific work that no other spacecraft is able to do currently. If Voyager was orbiting around Earth it would get no updates at all, no matter how much NASA paid to get it into orbit.

So my point stands - if Voyager ran on an iPhone it would get those updates.

I think it's better to say - if your phone was 12 billion miles from Earth and used to send sensitive scientific data - it would get updates as well.

WarMonitors is an incredibly bad source that continously posts misinformation and propaganda.

I follow Ukraine war closely and that is one of very few twitter accounts that I blocked - due to constant misinformation that they posted. This block happened months ago and had nothing to do with recent events. Even clear propaganda accounts are better than that guy. I'd love to find some example but this account posts so much that it is impossible to look up things from months ago.

I have a feeling that Musk was fed these two accounts by someone who he listens to - my guess is David Sacks as Sacks was much more active in Ukraine/Ru Twitter circles - and it would fit that one of his sources is unreliable WarMonitors.

Twitter changed their algorithm and the way they promote content.

Now if you get verified (pay Musk) - your replies get promoted and get more views and reactions. With effective removal of "old" verification system you have no way to validate whether an account is reliable or not. Everyone can look the same and virality is rewarded.

Depends on the photo. I had a photo that shows military unit marching between two of the great pyramids. Much easier to figure out a location if you have such obvious landmarks.

I found his books (which IMO are not that famous) because our local library had them. Otherwise I don't think I would have stumbled upon it.

Same applies to Walter Jon Williams and his Hardwired which was one of my early favorites. I was amazed to find out later that this book is one of inspirations for Cyberpunk tabletop games and Cyberpunk 2077.

Ceramic "high-temp" ones are not used because they still operate at very low temperatures so you are not completely free of cooling requirements, they are just slightly lower.

In that case it may make sense to use superconductor with better material properties in exchange for more cooling.

A room temperature ambient pressure superconductor would remove the need for special cooling so it would be vastly better than current "high" temperature ones.

Most materials are not superconductors at 110K. If this one is, it is possible Koreans did not fake room temperature results but rather their sample is slightly different for some reason, maybe pure luck, maybe some part of process that they didn't clearly define or that their precursor materials have certain impurities.

Until today main hypothesis was that it is a scam by original team or a mistake when measuring resistance.

Now it looks unlikely as it would be very strange to luck into a new superconductor (pretty "good" one too) if they were faking it. It also means it is unlikely they made fundamental measuring mistakes such as thinking the sample is in room temperature when it was at 100K.

What seem plausible is that the process to make the material is not well defined and that there is high degree of variability. Even this chinese 110K replication only one of 6 samples shows superconductivity, meaning there is much room for improvement, perhaps with fine tuning they will find sample with characteristics that Korean team observed.

I think most people are just seeing the headline 110K instead of realizing the implications (not a scam, not a mistake, hard to replicate).

I was quite sceptical earlier today due to unconvincing videos but this finding pushes it heavily into "This might be it" territory.

Huge news. This means it is not a scam as a discovery of this type of superconductor would be big enough.

It also means it is unlikely they were measuring wrong for multiple years.

My layman take is that Korean sample is just a better or different batch that is properly superconducting at room temperature.

They are making more samples (bigger ones to test resistance).

My guess is that they already broke it to pieces and this one levitates slightly. Until they get more samples they will keep this one intact.

Zero resistance while conducting electricity. Levitating is nice but the important part is zero resistance.
