To bolster your point: Honestly they don't need to do much - the infrastructure is already there as a matter of being able to turn people's service up/down/on/off.

There is always a provider-managed CPE device that functions as the service demarcation point. This is the point where your contracted service speed is enforced (shape + egress queue and ingress policing).

You can have literally whatever router (dumb, smart, next-gen, whatever) spewing bits at X rate. The CPE will essentially normalize (police) that bit rate to your contracted speed (upstream scenario).

While I love my texting, slack, etc, nothing replaces the low-latency engagement (intimacy) of a one on one phone call. I can parse someone's tone very easily on a phone call. Text rarely conveys such depth.

You're falling squarely into the trap that I believe China plays so frequently: the belief that every other group of people shares a compatible value system and culture and any disagreement can be resolved with diplomacy, but never force.

To be frank, the Chinese view us as dumb by setting restrictions on ourselves, in an effort to inspire them to do similar self-restraint measures.

Nitpick: I really don't suggest a divergence in the DB/stack-of-choice between Dev/QA/Stage/Prod. I've chased so many issues that were in the planning process dismissed as "yeah that's an edge case and most likely won't happen".

The reasons I've seen for doing so are usually penny-wise, pound-foolish. Penny-wise in saving a few dollars (conceptually) on a spreadsheet for per-env/per-cycle, while neglecting the long-tail consequence of your labor factor just growing, potentially forever, without regard for total cost of ownership.

While I see a lot of derision about Kubernetes these days, if I am starting a Greenfield platform/design/product, why wouldn't I use it?

There are tremendous benefits to K8S. It isn't just hype.

On the flip side, starting out as a monolithic (all in one VM) app will take significant effort to transition to micro services / K8S.

If I think I might end up at microservices/K8S, I think I might as well plan for it (abstractly) initially.

You can pay for a developer account ($99/yr) which allows you to get your builds signed by Apple for the purposes of you running either dev-builds locally or internal-only apps for an organization.

That's what they mean by "no jailbreak required". Flipside is you gotta pay for a dev account to get your stuff signed to allow it to run.

Because you don't know what you're talking about and are engaging in "what if"-isms? There is no business case to solve with jumbos frames over the Internet. I've been in this business for 20 years. Seen this argument a dozen times. It never changes.

IFP is really more to let the receiver knows where one stream of bits stop and the next stream of bits start. How they handle the incoming spray of data is up to them on a queue/implementation level.

I understand. I have architected networks for over a decade now. The real issue is serialization delay. If I have a tiny voice packet that has to wait to be physically transmitted behind a huge dump truck packet (big), it can still be a problem even with high speed links with regards to microbursts.

It appears the law in this case feels differently.

The owners claimed under legal penalty that they had certain assets (paying customers, needs for IP addressing, etc). These statements appear to have been completely false. Thus, the trial.

And yes, lying to ARIN (or any RIR) about your customer base (need for IPv4 addressing) is just plain crappy. IPv4 addressing is a common resource - a 32-bit fixed address space - similar in concept to physical frequency allocation by the FCC.

There are 4.2B IPv4 addresses (minus some for RFC1918 and MCAST, etc). To lay illegitimate claim to them is really wrong, and more importantly, legally risky now.

Flipside: This criminal enterprise spotted those same exact attributes, but the mitigating factor was technical competence and submissiveness. And if it came to be where they thought it would never end up (the situation today), someone would discredit them as crazy, given their background.

Microsoft Office Excel 2007 was the first version of Excel to use multithreaded recalculation (MTR) of worksheets. You can configure Excel to use up to 1024 concurrent threads when recalculating, regardless of the number of processors or processor cores on the computer.

Somewhere, there is probably someone running hundreds of threads for excel (likely in a beefy VM/VDI). It is probably wired so deep into their business that they are afraid to move to other methods (that are more scalable). But such is the power of excel. What you see is what you get is not to be underestimated.

I like this. I think this data should be open-sourced, and recorded forever, without the ability to be changed. Maybe a good use for blockchain? (Please don't downvote!)

FWIW: I have been streaming FR24 my ADS-B data for a few years. In return they give you a business account ($50/mo value).

Back to the main point: Even the FR24 business-class account data is filtered. Given that this is an open protocol to begin with, I think the data should be recored "straight up" and made available to the public as a common service (benefit).

Future thoughts: Imagine if we had tons of people incentivized to deploy these? We could make "cyber" phased arrays on a massive scale by doing time of arrival analysis and so on. It could supplement the FAA primary/secondary radar system on a huge level. Perhaps even provide dense ATC control for drone operations where deploying primary/secondary radars is not feasible.

Re conspiracy theories - I basically admitted we (I) don’t know shit after the Snowden leaks. We joked about the NSA mass spying on us for years. It wasn’t a joke.

I have no information that leads me to believe UFO-tech is in a different category currently. It’s probably real. Just a question of when we all learn about it.
