So? They considered it to be worth while for them. Thus are working on it.

I am looking to fill the need for exactly this. Mind to share which device you got and which apps you use to read manga?
I worked on a couple of internal frameworks as a designer and thats exactly what happened to our frameworks.
Throwing away all the research and optimization out of the window for one unnecessary “we really need this” scenario.
Nobody sane would move their optimized mining operation constantly across various AirBnBs. It is hard to setup, very noisy, generates a ton of heat which, without proper cooling, does not make any money.
Reading the threads seems like I am the only one welcoming this change. The amount of scammers taking advantage of the way usernames worked before was getting out of hand. Especially since when you could paid to have a custom number. Lot of people could not differentiate between RandomJoe#4587 and RandomJoe#4597.
your niche is exactly the reason why you can get away without using Amazon.
You should read up about how much of toxic chemicals get released into the atmosphere during new year celebrations.
- You don't have to rebuy games for a premium if you already used steam before
- Synced saves with your PC if the game supports it
- Great performance for a handheld with a solid battery
- Great variety of inputs, and almost everything can be customizable (if you don't fancy the official button layouts there is a community coming up with custom ones)
- You can turn it into a regular computer if needed
- It is big enough to hold for my hands. With Switch or iPad my hands hurt after a while, not with steam deck.
- Repair-ability it is actually easy to fix
- You can download emulators for switch, gameboy and all the other older consoles
- I enjoy some games more on the deck then on the desktop
I love mine and I consider it to be the best purchase I made this year. By far.
Agree. I have so many problems with my Mac Mini it is by far the worst device I ever owned.
- It randomly disconnects bluetooth for 30-40s. Especially annoying during calls. When your headset & keyboard stop working and you don't have a way of make anyone know.
- The processor goes full throttle out of blue. Makes my fan go 100% for good 5-10 minutes.
- From time to time it refuses to wake up my monitor and I need to force shut down it.
I have the same problem. When I contacted support I didn't get anywhere and nothing seemed wrong on their side.
That is a huge stretch.
It used to be like that. I was playing with the idea a couple years ago as well. But looking at the social climate in the states, I'll rather keep my low paying job (in comparison to the FAANG) and enjoy the general safety.
When I was working at Kiwi.com as a senior product designer one of the guys on the development team did something very similar.
We were testing a new push notification refactoring and managed to send a push notification "Test test" to our whole Android user base (couple of hundred thousands of users). Interestingly enough, it was a great reactivation campaign. We bumped bookings by a noticeable margin, and since we redesigned our "rate us" flow couple of weeks before, we had a huge influx of 5* ratings as well.
Plus add line-height: 134%; and you are set! :)
I know that the author is speaking about SE 2020, but the issues listed in the article (at least some of them) to me seemed like bugs rather then deliberate design decisions.
But I completely agree that the iPhone 6. 7, 8, SE viewport should serve as the baseline for most, since the market share is quite significant (it takes the third spot worldwide).
Wow, lots of assumptions or designer blaming in this thread. Not that it is unexpected, but it still hurts since it is not as black and white as people here draw it to be. Let me give you my perspective as a designer who spent quite a lot of time on this topic.
1. The fact that some designers ignore other devices than their own is definitely true. That is why I created a Figma plugin to broaden the perspective. https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/732240841094697441/Vi... But developers do the very same thing and as often as designers. Just further down the pipeline.
2. Not supporting the smallest possible devices like the original SE is a reasonable business decision. It is not even making it into the charts at all the products I'm currently working on. It is simply not worth the effort (since the effort is not as insignificant as people here say).
3. Supporting the smallest devices is definitely not free. And it has a real monetary, technological and UX cost. It costs a lot of money to properly test, report, design, and implement every possible edge case for every possible viewports. Developers HATE creating special layouts or cases for specific devices (speaking about native mobile development) and if I recall correctly, Apple might even prohibit it. And lastly, design is about making the best possible solution, for the biggest amount of people. Quite often you will find yourself in a situation where you have to decide whether you will vastly improve the experience for the 99% of people and make the experience not ideal for the 1% or vice versa. Which is the better call?
4. Blaming it all on designers is just too harsh. Yes, not everyone is perfect, and designers often miss it, but more often than not it is a simple business decisions. Designers can decide to ditch a certain viewport because it can benefit the majority, the same way developers decide to drop certain OS support.
I know we should refrain from comment's like these, but thank you!
I'm fortunate enough to have big enough clientele where word of mouth does most of the marketing for me. But platforms like 99designs do come up often during price negotiation and it makes some of the discussions really difficult.
Looking at your website, I think the logo is perfectly fine for your target customer. I would just slightly adjusted the kerning and maybe used the same casing you have in the page title but other than it is def good enough!
But I don't think you need to spend as much for the branding as you suggest. I did a couple of branding projects for around $5K each, and that consisted of a logo, palette and typography. That is mostly enough for startups with a little bit of cash flow just getting out of the side-project phase.
I don't think so, people are def aware of these projects. The problem is the stuff you mentioned (at least YT, gmail chrome, maps) are in a pretty rough spot.
And while Waymo might have an insane potential, it is just that, a potential.
They are boiling a frog. It is naive to think they will stop here.
So it is just a list of articles that you collected from indiehackers.com? Or am I missing something?
But if we overdesign our writing, it becomes extremely hard to read as this one.
I really feel conflicted with the recent hype Apple is getting.
On one hand, I'm really happy that we are doing such an improvements in terms of performance. Competition is always good, no matter what.
But on the other, I had such a terrible experience with all the Macs that I had to work with in the last two years that I'm no longer recommending Macs to anyone. So much so that the illustrated performance gains are simply irrelevant.
To give you a little bit context.
I really liked Apple. I'm a product designer, and I was able to ride the wave of mobile app designs with the first release of the app store. It practically shaped my career. So I'm forever thankful for that and was always happy with them. I've always recommended them wherever I go, because they just worked.
But recently...
I spent about 6-7k worth of Macs for myself and my family (in past two years). Companies I was working with provided Macs worth 8k alone (two high end devices). And all of these had all kinds of different issues like:
- USB-C monitor working on 2 devices but not the others (Mac Minis).
- Bluetooth connection dropping at least twice a day (for around 30 sec, especially annoying during zoom meetings)
- Software issues like mac client popping every bloody hour. Disrupting either my workflow or my screen sharing.
- Overheating issues (and slowness) with my Macbook Pro 16", because I'm charging it from the wrong side.
- Trackpad stopping working for a couple of seconds from time to time, making me question my sanity.
- Mac Minis refusing to wake up the monitor from time to time.
- Macbooks sometimes freezing when being woken up.
And the list goes on ... and some of these devices were returned and exchanged a couple of times to no effect. And there is no Mac in my family that just works. Not anymore. And it become so annoying that I started selling them and purchasing custom Window stations instead.
I'm sorry for the offtopic, but needed to vent.
No worries about your english. It seems like you are in a very tough position. I cannot really connect with it because it is very different from where I grew up. But if you are studying computer science, you are ona good track. That will open lots of different doors, and will most likely give you an ability to move out, or even to other country. Stay strong and persist!
I don't deal with them. If I mute it on my end, it gives the impression I'm ok with this kind of ads or content. But I'm not so I go elsewhere.
It would get unproductive but since you cannot turn the sound off, it stayed productive.
You need to change the way you think about files with Figma.
In Sketch, ppl use to have everything in one huge file. Lots of variants, a/b tests, different flows. But with Figma, you need to make a library of shared components, and split everything into smaller files so you don't have to redownload the whole design every time you want to put a comment on something. This does require you to sub though.
Source: I'm helping companies setup their Figma processes and files structure so they can work effectively. This approach works the best.
I bet that if you two would have a conversation, and you would discuss all the nuances of the situation, and you would actually get through the whole reasonig, you would write a different comment.
Of course, but it doesn't factor in the interface and input differences. It is next to impossible to port a game optimized for PC to mobile. And nobody cares about mobile games making their way onto desktops.
I have a Figma plugin that shows different display sizes with their respective market share. It helps designers to test their mockups for different devices and make decisions based on that.
I have over 18k installs https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/732240841094697441/Vi...
I'm currently working on a BE that would enable you to bring your own product data for a small fee. But as a designer, it takes far too much time. If there would be anyone who would like to join, let me know.
I wrote a small article about the stack behind it:
