I've worked as an engineer in the Wi-Fi industry. Here's my advice: stay at least one or, even better, two generations behind the current Wi-Fi standards.

Vendors care about only two things: (1) Cost (2) the Gbps they can print on the box.

So today that means 802.11ac and WPA2, unfortunately.

Stability of the software is not a consideration.

^ Isn't that what folks used to say about programming in assembler? How much time do I want to spend learning frameworks (beyond what I already know) vs. how productive do I want to be?

The article has this: "Charging your phone with a higher wattage USB-C charger, those above 20 watts, may also make the devices toasty. " Total BS. The wattage of the charger is not causing this issue. Even a 300 Watt PD 3.0 USB-C charger still delivers up to 21 Volts at whatever current the phones charger decides it needs. The phone dictates how much power is consumed. The charger wattage is simply the maximum specified output power.

I worked on forward error correcting codes for a variety of systems.

A few big issues with Turbo codes: 1. Decoder complexity - often 4x or more the complexity of simpler codes.

2. Encoder delay- you need to have a really long interleaver at the transmitter to get the big dB of improvements.

3. These work best an pure additive white gaussian noise channels - most channels suffer from multipath, fading and other disturbances.

So while they are good far satellite broadcast system they don't always work as well in other applications.

All the money and talent devoted to these AR glasses should be spent on a Siri 2.0 project using the latest large language models like GPT-4.

Apple put neural network processors on its phone for a few years now but I don't see them taking advantage of it.

Siri feels absolutely brain dead compared to other speech recognition and GPT systems. It should be an absolute embarrassment for Tim Cook and all Apple employees.
