This hits home. I am also a faculty kid. You grow up thinking the university is awesome. And it is. You get involved in the university when you are older and find that the students for the most part treat the city and its residents like crap. The word townie is thrown around in a derogatory manner towards the locals. You are left thinking why the heck should I support this university when the alumni base has such a bad view of the people that actually live in the city. I realize that not everyone at the university is like that but its enough that it seems like a real cultural problem.

I'm not about to share what application I'm working on but I fully expect it to revolutionize the industry I work in.

Educational...my kids love it. its a very immersive way to learn.

TV replacement...Imagine having 5 large screen tv's in your living room watching every march madness game that is currently happening all at the same time.

Customers love it. It a huge wow factor when you bring it into a place.

Positive: Voice Commands, No Computer needed, Unity is great - development is easy

Negatives: Field of view is just weird, Not as intuitive as it could be, Cannot sell it - dev only

I had an LG fridge stop working and the reason was that a fuse blew on the circuit board. A cheap $2 fuse. It was not replaceable. I was lucky that I was able to un-solder it and replace it but otherwise you have to replace the entire board ($150). If you are not that handy you then have to pay something to do all this for you. Now you are talking $300+.

Unbelievable.

The microsoft hololens is a great piece of tech. Works great, no cords. Its development only though. It's cool that I can tinker with it, but at the end of the day I cannot sell a product with it.

Have kids. Validate their feelings. Set boundaries. Enforce boundaries. Talk with your kids. Teach them. Don't try to change them. Embrace them.

I see the power of twitter in its brevity not its depth. Its a content gateway.

I think legacy protocols such as email, IRC, SOAP...have proven time after time that there is no need for an information specific protocol.

Twitter could be more open, but I think they realized that would be giving away the keys to the castle.

This is where I think people are still missing the boat on twitter.

Twitter is not an aggregator of data to be passed along. Twitter is a massive un-walled global community. Though people may want access to the data as a bi product of that. The future is in cultivating community, not protocols.
