Ghostty 1.0 2 years ago

Congratulations on making it to the launch!

I really appreciate the levelheadedness of your responses regarding Ghostty, and how clear you are to be speaking positively for your thing instead of negatively about anyone else's.

Going to build it at lunch today and give it a shot :)

Ublock origin on desktop browsers.

Pihole with the default ad list and additional ones to block some social media sites.

Then Pihole is configured to use Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 for families, and I use the adult+malware filter.

I’ve got WireGuard running on the pihole server to make this all available for mobile devices when out and about.

Autodesk | Technical Consultant, Senior Technical Consultant, Principal Solution Architect | Remote, US | Full Time

Autodesk has an internal consulting organization to help design solutions for our customers. We offer custom development, product plugins, and architecture review and recommendation.

The tech stack involves NodeJS/React front-end development and C# backend development. Backend development can be for web solutions or plugins for our products.

Our solution architecture teams work alongside the developers and customers to help design solutions either directly for the customers, or for our teams to implement.

Currently we have three consultant positions available with more becoming available later this year - we're growing!

https://careers.autodesk.com The specific consulting positions are req IDs (searchable in Workday) 24WD79331, 24WD79332, 24WD79342

I use my iPad as a second display for the laptop when portable, it's surprisingly useful.

It's also kind of nice for keeping a game of baseball or something going on while sharing audio output with the main laptop, there's almost no display lag.

Just today I responded to a recruiter who directly emailed me "because my LinkedIn bio looked promising", asking: 1) How he got my email address, since it is not affiliated with my LinkedIn profile (uses my work email and only contains information about my current position) 2) That I wasn't interested, thanking him for his time

He responded, seemingly offended, that I "have a Gmail account, a very public account" that his "team of Search Engineers" found.

You make an interesting point that I hadn't thought of. I haven't had alcohol since I switched to this schedule (right after the holidays).

Plus, since I'm not eating after 8 and I still eat breakfast (with other kid) at 8, I'm in this sort of accidental intermittent fasting mode. I wonder how much that is contributing.

Yeah - I've wanted to be more of a morning person for a while. Always envious of my friends that have no issues getting up at 5 or 5:30 to run or work out before sitting down to work. I am hoping that I can shift to something like that after the baby is sleeping a little better and keep the habit.

I’m currently sleeping from 8pm to 4am to help out with a newborn baby.

I’ve found that the best thing I can do to consistently be ‘on’ right at 4 is to set my bedtime, not my awake time. I’m always in bed at 8 whether I think I’ll need 8 hours of sleep or not - this has allowed me to more consistently get something done right away outside of whenever the baby’s got me busy.

You can actually just grab the same window and make a corresponding "up-down-up" movement and it'll bring everything back. On personal machines I turn it off but if I'm doing something for someone else, this is a good thing to know.

I was drinking a lot (4-5 cups a day, usually crammed into the morning) when we had a Keurig in the office. Caused a bunch of heartburn during any particularly stressful weeks.

I've cut back to a max of two cups a day, and feel a lot better. I also don't feel like I need to drink coffee on the weekends to repel a headache until Mondays now.

Unbalanced is a nice way to put it :)

Our home line is 110/3.5 - if a service can serve content faster than 110 Mbit/s we are limited by the rate at which we can upload the TCP ACK, and not by the download limit on our connection.

Another good anecdote: Netflix has been cited as using 9.5% of the internet's upstream traffic on ACK alone. (source: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/11/netfli...)
