Yeah docker Mac expirience is pretty bad especially the x86 is just painful, and to your comment (about security), it should not really matter in practice, in fact we used both, but goal really is to run secure sandboxes that are processes without performance impact.

I was annoyed by the speed of docker on Mac’s, so I took a journey and decided to rewrite everything about it. DD was original working name and I’m in process of rebranding. But we can run docker on Mac’s with no vm. And its destroying qemu. We have plenty of new features that are comming. Rendering native apps, workspaces, much more.
Only thing about the article I believe is that it might have been written by human. Majority of jobs that are or can be intellectually done over wire such as pharmacy will eventually be gone. I can ask today AI if given drug is good for me and I would know better than any pharmacist could tell me, no stress I can ask dumbest question and I get answer that is aligned more with reality than any pharmacist could give me. Same goes for lawyers and other jobs.
This goes deeper, jobs that will stay are jobs that are right now out of compute, robotics will progress in next few years but it is much more demanding task compute-wise and so jobs that involves physics and navigating real world are still relatively safe for now.
Humans are sample efficient, rn LLM are not, you can learn driving in 20hrs no match for any AI these days. Jobs that involve getting expert in new domains quickly given missing data in real world are going to be safe too.
Well its been my experience that developers using AI are ahead, it obviously tool you want to use, also I don’t think it make sense to let engineers to try to write code in interview. I’ve been using ai for a while and I would not pass any any coding interview, I don’t even know how to write code anymore by hand, but I know very well what I want and how I want it. So my cookbook on how to hire is as follows:
1) look for opensource software, hunt ppl who been doing software for a while ideally before the era of AI, you are looking for ppl who had expirience before the ai tools 2) once you find someone look for skill, if you consider work good get in touch 3) if engineer replies get the technical stuff out of him, you want to know he has theoretical base and it matches what you saw on his past work 4) the important part, get out of him what tools he uses. That is for me single most telling thing. If answers opus, gpt55 high or whatever is currently best you have candidate 5) last step is to understand if he wants to sell you ai slop or willing to actually work, services such as hubstuff helps with that
- you have to value architecture skills, strong foundation in software, ego is not always bad as long as it is healthy amount, and open minded person, keeping up with latest trends is winner

Emotionally attached … no, but damm I would not want to write code by hand again. I stand behind principles and years of development, so if enough time spent with ai on a task I would be happy to defend its quality, as I believe newcomers/juniors will try as well so I guess expected?
My thoughts exactly. I think he is well positioned to see edge of ai tech as the money he spent (if allocated well) could give him bit more insights. Although questionoble how much he is still able with his background to understand, I don’t think he is as much engineer as he was used to be
Excatly, further more it really depends on who is using it and how value is compared not $. Senior engineers growing without ai will probably deliver 10x in value then ppl who just found out about ai yesterday. Doesn’t matter how much you spent dolar wise
I’m really looking forward to see non contaminated benchmarks. In this space its obvious that every day is just another day of a race. Cross fingers we get better opus for lower price
