It used an existing implementation, in theory this was mostly a porting task.

GPL-wise, I don't know how much is inspiration vs "based on" would this be, it'd be interesting to compare.

This looks like my Company peers, as long as there is any existing implementation they are pretty confident they can deliver, poor suckers that do the "no one has done it before" first pass don't get any recognition.

Personally, I'm not demanding to enable tinkering on everything if that's raising prices, it could be as simple as having some "This unit is serviceable" label, I'd let people to value it and manufacturers to follow it.

TBH, I think most people wouldn't care, specially in USA, it is way easier and cheaper to replace than to repair, workmanship is really expensive here.

But If a manufacturer shuts down a Cloud service that bricks my device they should open the interfaces and protocols to make them functional.

Now, if government sees a benefit in driving and sharing technology I'd be happy the government would actively participate in R&D.

There are some rural places in the Mountains in places not so far from America where they harass and rape teachers, doctors or any government service employees.

The national census always struggles how to safely and practically reach those places.

Get concerned when you see a real product in the market that has a sustainable business model.

The man behind the curtain here has an army of engineers, unlimited cloud nodes and basically has harvested all the data currently available in the world.

It doesn't get any better than this right now.

The actual scary stuff is the dilution of expertise, we contributed for a long time to share our knowledge for internet points (stack overflow, open source projects, etc), and it has been harvested by the AIs already, anyone that pays access to these services for tens of dollars a month can bootstrap really quickly and do what it might had needed years of expertise before.

It will dilute little by little our current service value, but you know what, it has always been like this forever, it is just faster.

In the meantime, learn to automate the automator, that's the way to get ahead.

I agree, just for my PC, something that'd enable small devs to create interesting foundation model apps that'd deploy to users using this local AI cards to run these new Apps.
