Well, that turned around pretty quickly. In 15 years Amazon went from "we aren't really competing with brick-and-mortar bookstores" to putting Borders out of business.
These APIs aren't available to iOS Safari, unfortunately.
Chrome and Safari push these notifications through the native Mac OS X Notification Center. Chrome on Snow Leopard has its own (rather ugly, IMO) implementation.
No need to create a friend list for that - you can just set the visibility to "Only Me" when you first authorize the app.
For the purists, allow me to recommend adjusting the volume controls on your phone.
The gesture area definitely made things fluid and easy, but unfortunately, it was absolutely not intuitive. If you haven't done (or have forgotten) the first use tutorial, it takes some luck to figure out how to navigate webOS. (I think that Clear has the same problem: swipe to mark as done/delete is not discoverable; it only works for people who already know of swipe to delete as a system gesture.)
Until the merger is complete, it's very important that Google and Motorola Mobility continue to behave as independent companies. Since this deal is under scrutiny by the FTC, I doubt that Google would put their acquisition at risk over a project as small as 280 Slides.
Don't worry: Android's build of Webkit still has plenty of work before it's good enough to be considered competent. Apple's Mobile Webkit, on the other hand...
Thanks for mentioning triadic closure. It's a great example of how useful information can be inferred/suggested based on an incomplete or imprecise model. The sacrifice of simplifying the social graph is what makes the task of constructing this graph online approachable.
That's actually a consequence of how iOS handled scrollable areas on pages prior to iOS 5. Totally not Google's fault; I believe you'll have better luck using desktop Reader in iOS 5.
While this is a fair criticism of Android as a whole, the lead designer has very little control over the performance of the OS. I'm sure that all the lagginess in Android bothers him at least as much as it bothers you.
This highlights one of my complaints with the trend toward skeuomorphic designs: if I've never had a physical address book, then why is my iPad trying to imitate one?
Cool concept. Not sure if the proficiency setting requires a physical switch – it seems like a user would only change that setting a couple times over the course of their usage of the camera.
