Working in IT for 18 years it was a somewhat natural progression, what got me interested was companies were paying 3x my salary for the same work with the new buzz word titles.
I just use the brave browser on ios it blocks ads ootb
I get that, I am making the comparison for how it could work today. Since i am assuming there was david coffee mugs, tshirts, key chains, etc. Art could also be advertising for the establishment that currently holds the piece as well.
The statue of david is marketing for Michelangelo since you could see the statue and go buy merchandise with it or other works of his on it.
To be fair I was going 70mph at the time. It could be a small nudge but at 70mph feels worse. I also had only owned the crosstrek for about 5 minutes at that point and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off as well, didn’t realize buttons were placed on the ceiling.
Yeah its part of my pre-drive procedure since it happened. I’ve never had any of my vehicles auto brake in a way that was helpful.
It was actually my first experience with the car, it happened on my way from the dealership to the office. It also didn’t help that I owneed the vehicle for 5 minutes at that point and could not find the button to disable it. I have since gotten rid of the car.
I got what was available at the time. The golf r is low production car finding one to buy was hard enough.
The crosstrek the only orange one available had eyesight.
The atlas was used so there was only 1 option locally
The impreza its standard on anything over base, and the base was missing other things i wanted.
Not the poster
Vw golf r 2016 the sensor was low to the ground and it would randomly brake for stuff it thought was a threat like a cardboard box.
Subaru crosstrek 2018 - would brake for no reason, cars turning up ahead of me, etc.
VW atlas 2019 - brake for no reason would also scream at me and show a red symbol on the hud when nothing was in the road in front of me.
Subaru impreza 2023 - brakes for turning vehicles up the road, had it brake in a car wash.
On my vw vehicles i bought a can bus programmer so i could turn off as much if the safety stuff as possible because it made the car less safe to drive. In the impreza (current car) turning off the eyesight features is part of the pre-drive ritual.
I also had the lane assist on the crosstrek almost cause an accident on the highway at speed. Roads here are inconsistent and it was violently jerking the wheel trying to stay between lines.
The grades links at the bottom of the page are broken for me.
I’ve been trying to meet people outside of my company, i’d be down for a chat.

Making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year doesn’t make you rich, history shows that people who make more than average amounts of money have a hard time retaining meaningful amounts of it. Making a lot of money doesn’t automatically make you good with money.
It should also not allow you to leave the page using the back button on the browser, it should intercept that and redirect you to the homepage and as you scroll it adds more to your browser history.
I use to operate like this as well, but I bit the bullet and moved my apps to containers when upgraded my server hardware. Using portainer, mapping my container data to volumes on the file system. It was all incredibly easy to do and it gives me a web interface that I can manage my lab from my iPad. I rebuild my containers periodically through the gui by clicking the rebuild button and telling it to pull latest. It is so much easier to me at this point that installing a ton of packages that may or may not conflict into the operating system. Its all cleanly separated into isolated packages and management of versions and dependencies is much nicer as well.
My setup is portainer for container management on top of docker-ce, running on debian.
The problem with this notion is the idea that I want to socialize with people I work with, when you hang out with co-workers all you do is talk about work. I want to go to work get what I need to get done, stop working, then go off and do social things I want to do. Work is merely a means of cash flowing those things.
I have felt this way for a little while now.
I disconnect all networking to my work laptop and remove it from the dock to make sure using it again is something I have to actually need to do and nothing pops up randomly.
I get up from my desk at work everyday, disconnect and the thought of going back to my computer that same day makes me feel ill.
I will play video games on my switch, or I may use an xbox controller with steam big picture so its like a console. I don’t use most social media, I don’t run any OS I can’t control, I have a plex server but I made it as low maintenance as possible No smart tech I have a cell phone that dies occasionally because I use it so infrequently and forget to charge it. I use an iPad for reading, creating digital art and watching videos, I keep all work related stuff far away from it. Going for walks, creating art, watching movies, spending time with my family are all things I would rather do that sit at a computer.
Outside of some casual gaming, I really hate computers. I also really hate that my job involves spending 8 hours interacting with things that don’t actually exist, and that there is always some new thing popping up to replace other things that work really well for a very minuscule return on investment.
I hate how the internet has evolved into a giant meme, torrent of ads, and being hounded to agree to cookie usage.
Working in IT for 17 years has just completely soured me on computers.
The name of the site is instantly off putting for me.
I dont get the same pay arrangement bonuses, raises, rsu etc, they get a ton of pto for holidays and I don’t, employees get tons of trainings, access to online learning accounts, tuition reimbursement, they have a much bigger health care pool i pay about $24,000/yr for health care, employee discounts on company gear, 401k matching, employee stock purchase.
My contract house offered 10 pto, 5 sick, 7 paid holidays, base salary.
Working at Apple as a contractor sucks, I am starting my new gig next tuesday that lets me do 100% remote as a fte so I get all the benefits I miss out on at Apple since I don’t live where they want me to.
The ios youtube app seems to bypass the ad blockers, I stream on ios using brave it blocks youtube ads for me.
I have been off for two weeks and I know how you feel. I have all this free time, but in the back of my mind I know I don't have that much time. In a fourteen day span its not really practical to pick up something that will be a long term time commitment seeing as I am back at work tomorrow. I just took things I was already doing and spent more time on them. I read a few books, spent more time with my wife and son, took longer walks, listened to more music, played some video games that had been sidelined.
By far the most arduous part was avoiding anything resembling my day job, avoiding tech news, avoiding anything that felt like work. Working in tech for sixteen years it is the least exciting way I can spend my free time, but habits formed over the years and the communities I participate in heavily sway my information flows into that space. I just started un-following people on twitter, removing myself from sub reddits, and deleted slack off my devices.
If I knew I was going to have more long term free time I can easily find ways to make use of it as I have hobbies that I only get to do sparingly, playing music, drawing, painting, watching horror movies, playing my back catalog of steam, switch and xbox games, doing investment research, doing yoga, and learning music production/recording. When work eats a third of my day everyday it makes it more difficult to do things I want to do, if you knew your job wasn't going to interfere with your life you probably wouldn't feel this way.
How are you liking cubase?
I am also 36 and zoning is not stopping me from buying a house, lack of trucking to move out of state is because I want my stuff to actually show up in a reasonable amount of time.
I can echo this sentiment, I work as Senior SRE at a FAANG, I always though I wanted to work at a FAANG because it would be exciting, high pace, and use lots new technologies. Well most of the time it's incredibly boring. The only difference between where working at a FAANG and a regular old fortune 500 is that people who don't work at a FAANG think my job must be amazing.

So nothing noteworthy it appears. Im wondering when they will finally drop the number on the iPhone. At a certain point it is going to start sounding ridiculous. “Announcing the iPhone 23” just sounds lazy.
That is my experience as well. I will usually drop what I am working on to help mentor or assist someone having problems right away. It is quick to connect and the problem is occurring right then. It basically cuts the transaction time in half compared to the in person version.
