I agree and would rephrase it as client side frameworks help to enforce a clean and well defined API on the data, thus help to separate the business logic from representation / interaction, which is kind of the original goal of MVC.
The economists never get it right.
Being in China for more than 30 years I can tell the Chinese growth model is really simple: #1 An international economy and market so that we have a common currency to measure. The government also controls foreign exchange so that the "valuation" can be bumped to a high level. #2 A billion slaves so that you can get things done really quick and nobody would ever challenge. #3 No cost. In China pretty much everything is owned by "the public", so that those "country owned" companies can get the land and other resources with a very low price or even free. Labor is cheap. And you don't need to clean up the waste you produce: you can just throw them anywhere. The companies have no incentive for efficiency improvements so that the resources consumption is fast.
Before the "economic reform" in 1990s #1 didn't exist so you only see the growth in recent years.
This is a damn simple business and even a dog can make a lot money out of it easily. It is not replicatable (#2/#3) so it only happened in China. This is of course unsustainable. The minerals are exhausted, the environment is polluted and most of the people are still poor and the population getting old due to the one child policy. I would say we may see a collapse in the future 5 years or even less.
There was a massive password leakage happened in the end of 2011 and early 2012. Probably more than 100 millions of passwords from more than ten popular websites including some popular social network websites, were made available on the internet (BT or eDonkey). The size of the password files added up to 10GB after compressed. Some significant amount of the passwords were in plain text when obtained so that with such a huge dictionary rainbow table can be used to decrypt the a large portion of rest.
So the reality is really nasty. Many of the netizen in China are somehow running naked: you can simply query the password after you get the email.
China will certainly won't start a war against the US. There is actually a joke in China saying that if US wants to delay any high level government meetings they can just ask the US schools to have a mandatory parents meeting. And then many of those who in control of China will just fly over because they care about their children as much as other ordinary parents if not more.
And the US will certainly won't start the war either, because you can hardly find someone else who keep lending you money almost unconditionally.
The ruler in China is a trinity: the government, the army and the communist party.
Though with the "economic reform" and the unstoppable information flow with internet, China has become something really weird unlike anyone else in the history. Nobody believes in communism and everybody knows the government is lying all the time and yet just lives with it. Every activity by the government is for money and mostly quick money (for the officials).
I don't even think the hackers in this matter care much for the information. They may just try to get more funds from the government. Sometimes they even frame somebody or fake a threats to get the money. The funds will always be granted in such a situation because "if you don't grant you put the country in danger" and "if you grant you can take the commissions".
Most of the time every bit of it is simply dirty corrupted business. Many of the officials' children are permanent residents in the US. Some of them are even already citizens.
The university this guy works for (The PLA Information Engineering University) has a military background. And in China this means the teachers and many of the students are literally military personnel.
Those who escaped from North Korea to China will be sent back by the Chinese government if found and possibly executed. They are literally the most miserable people on this planet. China could have become some west "North Korea" (China is at the west of North Korea) if American hadn't killed Chairman Mao's son during Korean War. For that I am really grateful to the US. Life is not easy but it could have been much worse.

Having been in the internet industry in China for more than 10 years before I decided to move to the US I would say CNNIC is just as evil as any government organization in China if not worse. There are some well known rules regarding CNNIC: don't buy a .cn domain, don't install any software from them and don't trust what they say.
BTW non government organizations are technically banned in China. You need to apply for a permit and you seldom get one.
Censorship in China is a big business, for the companies that have connections to the officials, for the universities that rely on the funds, and for the officials who use this as a stepstone for their career. It is so common that you can even find many fresh graduates who worked for the GFW in the job market.
