I don't think I'm alone with my assessment. I've seen threads where comments were downvoted and flagged when they were critical of certain YC companies, and I can't recall 100% is why I suggested the likelihood of the same pattern. I didn't say YOU removed it but the people in that thread for whatever reason felt justified to censor those comments.

I don't think its particularly healthy to be purring, you are most likely causing damage to your vocal chords. The way cats do it are completely different and it causes their whole body to vibrate. You are better off humming to your cats.

Why does people having different opinion upset you? People claim dogs are also unfavourable. I personally do not like cats but the personality effect is more pronounced among cats because they do not express themselves as much as dogs.

In general I do not like pets or children. If you think they are amazing, great! but know others may not share your opinions.

Think you are tad exaggerating things for sensationalism here, there is nowhere near the level of cult behaviour you describe. Aum Shinrikyo was a small group. There are other religious groups but they aren't extremists. I would argue that there are far more Christian sect groups in the States who are armed.

Still waiting for Vancouver real estate to follow suit but feels weird that in Vancouver its' socially acceptable for people without homes single out a certain ethnic group every cycle. IPFS is just too slow for it to be usable on a mass scale. It's a neat idea but unfortunately, p2p file storage is tough, you absolutely need a central model to scale up. Basically we are at the Ponzi finance stage and approaching a Minsky moment. By participating in this destructive greed driven financial system, nothing new is created, the world isn't any better.

It will take some time but there's a side of this coin that nobody with money likes to talk about, its the slow realization that your material attainment creates a cycle of apathy and that you have an impact on the world that you've squandered ultimately in the vain chase of exuberance. You try to get over this feeling of emptiness by doing a variety of things but because you are so comfortable you can't find a way to undo it. Many fall into addictions, sex, drugs, purchases but its fleeting and you hit a wall. With all the money and comforts in the world an outsider would be puzzled but this is the burden of haves. While it isn't quite the same as have nots, its of the same pedigree.

Everybody chases what everybody else is chasing without realizing what it is they are chasing. This is the type of conversations we avoid. We don't stop, pause, and collective question what we do is correct. No there's no trickle down effect either. It's the other way around and I've seen many successful people destroy their lives once they let wealth get to their heads.

Came here to point this out. I've seen many cash flow positive strong businesses end up in the hands of VCs by raising money. Remember that when you raise money and you don't hit "KPI" or any goalpost that can be manipulated and moved, you are gambling.

In the age of cheap capital, this might have been an attainable goal: Raise money, pump valuation and dump on retail. If not, get acquired by another startup unicorn. That is no longer the case. Many startups are going to run out of capital and not only is IPO out of the picture in 2023 and beyond, the "failacquired" is just going to be straight up "shut down" when they can't find buyers.

I saw this happening heading towards 2018 briefly and I am seeing even more number of desperate startup founders who turned their cash positive business into a cash negative by raising money.

It always puzzled me why startups were being told to lose money to grow quickly and its made me uneasy knowing that when the tide goes out, it does so rapidly.

I don't think the impact is as great as they say. Pharma firms collude to create very strong lobby and special interest groups that keeps people elected. Cannabis legalization created a lot more fragmented cannabilizing groups.

Just take a look at Canadian legal market. The grey market always outperforms it and many have begun shunning the expensive legal weed.

Lot's of weird actors in this space, especially these psychedellic therapy groups who are self-licensed and have history of misconduct.

I find these one off studies to be highly sensational and idealizing a very tough market to break into. The impact of marijuana is still not known 100%.

There is reason why some countries like Singapore have been extra careful to adopt these western libertarian ideas. While probably an overreaction, the impact of marijuana needs to be observed over a very long period of time and this is where pharmaceuticals shine.

That is way too short! Should be at least a year or two imho but I can see why more and more companies are covertly avoiding hiring women and why professional women avoid pregnancy. In some places, taking such leave could affect your career, so much that when women get married they opt to not have children or give up their careers altogether, leading to decline in birth rates (ex. Korea, Japan)

There should be more subsidies and tax incentives for companies to provide longer mat/pat leave.
