I came here expecting it was a yet another story about Canonical.

i totally misread the title of this post. What is wrong with me?
What would happen if we didn't allow a female category for power lifting? Just have human power lifting. Does the NFL have a ban on women in NFL? I don't know but the teams look as I expect they would even without a ban.
Great keyboard, great display, great OS. It was fast enough and a great terminal to bigger Sparcs if you needed it.
I had one on my desk and eventually a collection of Sparc 2, 10's and a V in my garage. I miss the keyboard and Sun OS 4, the Trinitron display and working on difficult engineering problems on those machines.
I agree that it is slightly better than Reddit but often it just turns into a mess that doesn't touch on tech.
They are plenty of places for political discussions. HN is a rare great place for tech so personally I'd rather keep it that way.
I think the commentor was talking about Adams's support for Trump. While maybe not normal on Reddit, HN or San Francisco, it's normal enough that more than half the voters agreed with Scott Adams.
100% this. But don't forget the garden hose running full blast so you can cool it! It's not impossible to get up and running for fun for an hour, but this isn't a run 24/7 kinda setup any more than getting an old mainframe running in one's garage is practical.
This is wonderful to see. I was a student and then entered into the tech industry in the mid 90's and at that time the Internet had fun whimsical things like this almost weekly.
Exactly. We have the phrase "roid-rage" for a reason.
Maybe the estate should look into whomever was selling him testosterone enanthate so that he could have testosterone levels of 5,000 or more. I suspect that had more to do with his degraded mental situation than his AI chats.
While a brand isn't a guarantee of quality, brands can work with their manufacture to hit the level of material and assembly quality they need for their products. The same manufacture will likely produce different products with very different results and costs.
I'm sorry to tell you this, but the EU has already been lost.
AI is a nation defense issue. No nation has the luxury to stop their AI companies without the risk of losing national sovereignty.
Wasn't the model Y the best selling car in the world in 2024?
This is how you filter for all the Reddit users who found out about HN.
All the other car, robot, solar and energy companies have CEOs that aren't Elon. How are they doing?
Meaningless comparison. Tesla isn't a car company.
People who claim Ford and Mercedes have systems as good as Tesla haven't personally taken a currently shipping v14 FSD trip and then personally used Ford and Mercedes systems. I see Cybertrucks many times a day in San Francisco and on the 101. I took a Robotaxi ride in SF last week. It was cheaper than Uber and Waymo but I am hoping they bring back the 2014 price wars of Uber/Lyft. I think Musk's pay is $1/yr.
It was mentioned on the Tesla earning's call in Q2 or Q3 2025 that HW3 FSD customers will likely be moved to a version of HW5 that accommodated the older camera sensors.
100%. We are seeing the bet of hard coded functions vs AI learned functions play out for us over the next year or two. Waymo has special case code for so much of their stack. Tesla removes special case code and replaces it with inference. Same with the Boston Dynamics vs Tesla robots. Tesla is making a bet that custom case code isn't going to scale nearly as fast as AI inference scales. Good news is that if one feels strongly one can place bets with one's money! If one doesn't feel strongly you can just comment on HN or Reddit or just watch.
I don't think we need "industry mandate". I suspect the electronics specs are dictated by the very efficient market and the consumer is being squeezed in many ways. So device manufactures are just meeting the pricing needs of the consumer and dropping the expensive things that are less understood like GPUs and extra ram.

This was all released many years ago in the Vault 7 drop. What's new here?
Duck me, I notice it all the time!
Every rental car I've rented in California seems to have Florida plates and every U-haul I've rented in the country has Arizona plates. I don't know that the issuing state matters. The Article content suggests the main issue is taking multiple short trips to the boarder not driving across a state.
I think you may be missing the whole national security part of the AI race. This isn't just about asking a computer what recipe you can cook tonight with the items in your fridge. In many ways it is similar to the race to build a nuclear bomb. We may individually not like that, but we might individually be best served to live in the nation that got there first.
For most of my life I also used to think there was a difference between the two. But now I realized they are actually just the same.
I went to the Renton, WA one during the death days. It was so odd. Mostly empty shelves and what few products were there had the famous Fry's return labels on them. I'm assuming Amazon killed them.
How many more than a couple do you need? 20 anecdotes? 40 anecdotes? 100? How much bias is okay for you and the world?
