Front End Engineer and Search Engineer

Manzama is an enterprise SaaS platform that helps professionals find, discover and monitor news that is important to them and their clients. We've been around for a little over 6 years, focused on the legal vertical, and are profitable with very loyal and happy customers. We are looking for Senior Developers to join our small but growing team. You'll be an integral part of building our platform including expanding our use of machine learning and NLP to help deliver the most relevant news possible. We are based in beautiful Bend, Oregon but support remote workers as well.

As our lead front end engineer you'll use your talents to build a responsive frontend to our platform that our users will love. As a search engineer you'll focus on further improving our results by customizing Solr to our needs and bringing in additional tools and data where it will help.

Tech: Python, Django, Postgres, Solr, GCE, BigQuery, Datastore

While it's great if you have experience with our tech stack we are more interested in finding talented engineers who have experience building amazing products and systems.

A similar item is Baltimore's "Mr Trash Wheel" [1] which in one year has kept over 350 tons of trash from going into the harbor. It even has it's own twitter account [2].

Something like the trash wheel is most effective at choke points where a bunch of trash is getting funneled into a fairly narrow space versus the open ocean, but it's amazing how much trash it has kept out of the harbor and thereby the ocean.

Another benefit is it's great for doing tutorials or to use when teaching a class. Instead of having to get all the tools and libraries installed locally on everyone's laptops people can just login to the console, fire up the shell and everyone will have the same base environment configured and ready to go.

Although today's fact of "Birds' knees actually bend backwards" is incorrect. Birds' knees bend they same way as our knees. What we think of as a bird's knee is actually more like their ankle.

I use another startup called http://hendrickspark.com/ to solve most of those issues for myself.

You have a "style expert" who you meet with over Skype video. They send you a box of clothes to try on and review with your expert over Skype video. Any items you don't like or don't fit you put back in the box and send back. They include the return shipping label in the box so you just have to put the label on tape up the box and have FedEx pick it up. You only pay for the items you keep (no shipping charges or extra fees). They try to make the process as painless as possible.

Over time as you meet with your style expert, it's always the same person, and get to know each other they get a better sense for what you like and don't like as well as keeping track of things such as sizes and fits. They also recommend what things work well together so you know what things to wear together, etc. They have definitely pushed me out of my t-shirt and jeans comfort zone, without going to fashionista or anything.

The primary drawback is my clothes budget is definitely higher than it use to be, as most of the clothes are significantly more expensive (no $20 dollar jeans) as they tend to come from more boutique and small manufacturers.

While that probably sounds an awful lot like an advertisement I have no connection with Hendricks Park other than as a happy customer.
