Americans do not care about privacy or security in any mass sense. They will let the country fall to a total surveillance state with without even batting an eye, put wiretaps right in their homes so they can set timers for their lasanga, all for 'convenience'. Amazon's 'bad PR' doesn't effect them in the slightest and Americans have already forgotten about their past issues with facial recognition, except a small percentage of techies that visit sites like this, not any majority of society.

I've had zero issues with my Android One Xiaomi. Best value I've ever had in a phone for $169. Easily a better value than the $349 Nokia 7.1.

I've been using a $169 Android One Xiaomi and the only difference I can tell between my original Pixel 1 is with the Camera and lack of USB-C. Xiaomi gets 3x the battery life. I have a Sony A6500 that I use for photos and just WiFi transfer them to the Xiaomi seamlessly. No reason for a really cutting edge phone anymore unless you use it primarily for gaming or absolutely need a top tier camera?

Just because you have different priorities, priorities that are "infinite growth" (cancer), doesn't mean its automatically a good idea. Those workers weren't being employed from NYC and surrounding areas, and you know it. They were coming there to displace people already living there.

Costs $24/day including tip for me to go 1/2 mile with Lyft 10 miles outside of Seattle during non surge pricing.

Costs me $0/day to take the bus or light rail, subsidized by my workplace. $3-$4 if your workplace doesn't subsidize and you get a regional pass.

I've noticed no improvement, especially now with the viaduct closed which appears to be a permanent decline for people coming in from the southwest and west Seattle.

I started out with that attitude and had major passion and a real serious interest, but so far the alienation and exploitation of salary work in my last two corporate fortune 100 jobs has me wanting to end tech all together. I don't even enjoy tech anymore due to work, even in my personal time. Burn out is real.

Who does all of the work?

That's right, the workers. The workers should have the excess of power in all circumstances. The only reason we have weekends and the "40" hour work week is because of workers and left wing movements. Corporations would have never let such happen, and are historically against the worker & only in favor of raking in profit at the expense of labor.

I miss it too. I really miss IRC. I used to have a large group of amateur radio operators I chatted with for 5-7 years (the IRC channel is still up & somewhat active!). We used to do meetups for ARRL Field Day & Dayton Hamvention. We were all great friends, we all just shot the shit & had fun. Unfortunately everyone found something else or moved to different software to communicate and we slowly drifted apart.

All of my transgender support communities have been gutted and destroyed by hate speech and people going "YOU HAVE A MENTAL DISORDER, FREAK". I really used to enjoy my PHPbb & other forums for real groups of caring people. Anonymity let the hate flow. I feel those communities have since moved to Reddit -- just like mostly everything else.

The centralization & ease of access (it's in everyone's pockets) is really what turned the tables.

How many people are actually informed that the Washington Post is owned by Jeff Bezos? How many people know that Jeff Bezos has contracts with the CIA[1] & sits on a pentagon board[2]? I doubt many. It's one of the few "left" wing newspapers I refuse to read for the reasons above.
