I think it’s not a facebook ban per se but more like set of regulations (like no nsfw content and so on) that you need to meet to operate a business in the country. Facebook couldn’t care to meet those rules so they aren’t allowed to operate. Apple, Tesla and thousands other american businesses can still operate.

Is it common for Germans to dream about getting out of Germany and moving to US? Congratulations to you that you managed to do that, I am wondering how hard for German is to migrate to US to puruse better life here.

Good point, we are seeing a lot of layoffs in bay area amand other HCoL locations in the US but at the same time hiring is still going strong in Eastern Europe and India. Typical outsourcing destinations where you can get a developer for fraction of the price. We can debate about quality but for sure countries like Poland have lots of developers that are on a par with best ones in Bay area

It’s a dying country, with lowest fertility rate in the world and an ultra conservative president backed by evangelical nutjobs. I know they are quite good partner and they tend to listen to us when we need to contain China but still I think they peaked. They will probably end up similarly to Japan with several lost decades.

Aren’t laws in Japan constructed to be like that? Cumbersome, inefficient and thwarting meaningful progress? When we defeated Japan in WW2 we made sure that they became our “ally” and also had huge role in creating their laws and government. So this is intentional so that they are not able to surpass us ever again. Any reform will be shut down by current japanese government which was and still is propped up by CIA basically. This is what you get when you lose world war

They are probably going back to torrenting and similar. When disney was slow to rollout in some countries my friends did not want to wait for Mandalorian to drop with Disney plus over there in Europe. They just downloaded it for free and did not even need to sign up for disney when it came one year later.

If the streaming companies start to provide subpar and cumbersome service and charge hundreds of dollars for it per year I can see people going back to proven and free ways that were very popular 15-20 years ago

Isn’t Instagram the bigger issue for depression among american teenagers according to scientific research? You gonna ban it as well or not because it’s american company so it can bend over for CIA/NSA/FBI as they please?

Tiktok ban is purely political nothing else.

Do you actually want Americans to have their own free will and choice? Hah, you wish. Only thing we can get is propagandized version neatly created by mass media conglomerates.

Western Europeans(mostly germanic and anglo-saxon) tended to have those genocidal attitudes towards every other ethnicity. I wonder why is that so, was that part of the culture back then? Are those ethnicities more violent when there is no oversight?

It already is underway, just look how easy people are manipulated by media. Remember Japan bashing in 80s when they were about to surpass us economically? People got manipulated so hard to hate Japan and Japanese that they went out and killed innocent asians on the street. American propaganda is first class.

Tbh as American should I be more worried if my data is shared with some far away government agent who is probably pronouncing my name incorrectly or our domestic favourites NSA or FBI? I believe the current paranoia about China completely overshadows the real danger for american citizens, but maybe that is the intention.

I don’t think it’s the issue. Why the same still happens in countries where women are treated much better (having more privileges than men) like Poland where women don’t need to serve in military and retire 5 years early while having 10 year longer average lifespan?

Birthrate in Poland is still declining

Well sounds like many parts of EU then. In Netherlands restaurant prices have gone up 20-30% this year. When visiting Poland I have seen food prices to be as high or even higher than in Netherlands while they earn 3 or 4 times less on average. It used to be cheap to go to Poland but this year quite crazy. I feel bad for them, looks like their government really fucked up, also the sanctions are backfiring badly over there
