It is not worth it and it is not even that impressive considering the cost.

If you told me that you would spend half a trillion and the best minds on reading the whole internet, then with some statistical innovation try to guess the probable output of an input. The way it works now seems about right, probably a bit disappointing even.

The equivalent is the massive cost of CGI and LLMs in comparison to the lackluster end result.

And they cost 300 million to make be cause of the CGI fest they are, hence need close to a billion in profits when considering marketing and the theater cut. So the cost of CGI and the enshittification of movies seems to be a good analogy to the usefuleness of LLM/AI.

Is it miraculous? We have spent hundreds of billions, trillions on reading the whole internet(training we call it) and with breakthroughs in statistics we can guess the next probable word and it makes sense to a pretty high degree. I think it works pretty much as you would expect does it not? With all that data read and all that money spent?

The impressive thing with the tech is that we(the humans) thought of it and through better hardware actually where able to do it. Super f-ing cool but in the end pretty pointless imo.

Technology has been stagnant for over 50 years, so it is easy to believe if you live in reality.

But sure if you exclusively look at the one field that has been advancing until about now I can see how one would end up where you are.
