Yeah I was trying to get the general point of "crushing the pill could interfere with effective delivery of the medicine" without getting too far into the weeds. Honestly it's usually fine and I do think mixing crushed pills with food is an important tool in a pet owners belt. It's just not the universal solution that was being implied.

It's difficult to make sure they get the entire dose, again unless you supervise. And good luck getting a cat to finish food they've decided they are done with. C. I have cats that are picky enough to ignore any food that has a crushed pill in it. They can always tell. Yes even if I use smelly food. D. Not all medications can be safely crushed. Slowly dissolving in the stomach could be an important aspect of the delivery.

If you need a painkiller it's worth considering the source of pain you are trying to kill. This is an article with a chart considering 11 different situations you might be in and which pill is better for each. A 12th line for "there is also some swelling in the part of you that hurts" would make sense to me.
Something I'm surprised this article didn't mention is that sometimes the anti-inflammatory is the point. If you have swelling along with the pain then ibuprofen or any other NSAID is going to be much more effective. That would be the main reason to go with ibuprofen in my opinion. But again if you take medical advice from an internet comment you're already doing it wrong.
Its a little unclear in the bulleted list but in the volley ball example it becomes evident the author isn't talking about reflexes.

There he's describing quick on-the-fly strategic choices eg. what is the best move to make in the next half second? So he can hit the ball but he can't do the quick thinking to know if he should.
I think most people have an opinion similar to NIMBYism. Everyone agrees there are too many regulations but no one agrees which ones are the extra. Every rule is someone's highest concern.
That's why part of the argument in Abundance is that current processes give too many people too much veto power. When every issue is someone's pet issue nothing can ever get done.
Helium and Lithium were also created in the pre stellar era of the universe, hydrogen was the majority by far but not the only element that wasn't created in stars. I think anything past 3 on the periodic table is exclusively stellar though.

This is conjecture but I'm pretty sure the idea of it even being an "index" is a stretch. More like people who work in disaster relief talking about their jobs informally. "I just got back from Town A. They had a tornado but it wasn't too bad. The Waffle House stayed open." "I'm heading to Town B. They've been having flooding so bad the Waffle House has been closed for 12 hours." That sort of thing.
Edit: Apparently FEMA contacts local businesses including Waffle Houses in the areas affected by a disaster to ask how they are doing. This makes sense as an added source of data to gauge the severity of an emergency. Still a stretch to call it the "Waffle House Index".

They're not saying the failure rate of tapes is 50%. They're saying if you survey attempts to do data restores from tape then 50% of the time not all the requested data is found.
I can't claim the same volumes you can but I did handle tape backups and recovery for a mid sized business for a few years. We only had one tape failure in my tenure but we had plenty of failed recoveries. We had issues like the user not knowing the name and location of the missing file with enough detail to find it, or they changed the file 6 times in one day and they need version 3 and the backup system isn't that granular.
Those are just the issues after the system was set up and working well. Plenty of people set a backup system running, never check the output, and are disappointed years later to learn the initial config was wrong.
Long story short 50% failure of tapes is ludicrous but 50% failure of recovery efforts is not.
The super bike is later in the book and temporary. When delivering pizzas he has a car so cool and intimidating it makes other drivers get out of the way so he can deliver pizza faster. But he actually wrecks it and looses the delivery job near the start of the book. For most of the story he doesn't have any iconic means of transportation.
There really aren't more of those than there are people trying to give more credit to those women than there is evidence for.

Option 1 only works if Logitech plays ball. They might consider the exclusivity very valuable and be unwilling to license it for anything reasonable.
Option 2 is a great way to land in court. It's one thing to steal IP from a tiny company or individual but Logitech can afford lawyers.

It's kind of a historical happenstance. Standard was created first as a company offering support services for creators. Nebula was one of Standard's offerings which grew to be the main thing.

You want to control the error correction? Got it. Render in color? No problem. Batch convert 1000 lines of text into 1000 individual images. It took less than a second. It even does Datamatrix and other non QR encodings.
I think visibility is probably the primary goal which is not a bad thing.
As for actual use the potential lies in the modularity. You could work primarily from an x86 laptop but swap the RISK-V board in for testing. And whichever board isn't currently in the laptop can be even be loaded into the small desktop shell Framework makes. If the price is right an existing Framework user could possibly get a RISC-V machine for less money than one of the dedicated laptops from DeepCompute without needing to buy another screen, keyboard, battery, etc and end up with a better build quality to boot.
It's less about the field of electronics being old and more about being surprised that ISO apparently just started counting with number 1 and that the preferred numbers would be so early relative to other things you might want to standardize.
The thing that's blowing my mind here is that this standard was adopted as ISO 3. It reminds me of the Simpsons joke that Mr. Burns' social security number is 000-00-0002.
I understood your previous post to be arguing against copyright on the basis of scientific work not counting. If you meant copyright is fine but the way we compensate scientific work is bad then I agree. It's a complex issue because I don't think you should be able to copyright a factual claim but I do think scientific work should be better compensated. I don't know of a solution to that problem but I would be eager to hear one.
You're mixing up patents, copyright, and plagiarism. Similar but not the same ideas.
Copyright exists to protect a creator's right to the proceeds of their creative output. Copyright is pretty broad. If I tell a different story with your characters I'm still violating copyright.
Patents exist to protect an inventor's right to the proceeds of their invention. If you invent a true hoverboard and I buy one, reverse engineer it, and sell copies I'm in trouble. But if I am merely inspired by your creation to go invent my own hover tech that works differently I can sell that just fine.
Descriptions of the real world as it already exits do not get copyright or patent regardless of the work put in. No matter how good a job you do creating a map of New York you can't prevent someone else from making a map of New York.
This article notes that the algorithm "leaks information at a rate of 0.0005 bits per character" and as such it's fine for encrypting a tweet but not a novel. Can someone with a better understanding of cryptography put 0.0005 bits per character in context? Maybe suggest a practical upper limit to its usefulness that's more specific? More than 140 characters but less than a whole book leaves a lot of wiggle room.
edit: To be clear I mean someone with a better understanding of cryptography than me. I don't doubt the author's expertise.

I think that's part of the point. They don't focus on mastering a handful of dishes so they don't have the best of anything. At the same time they make an acceptable version of a wide variety of dishes. They are a great option if you're in a group that can't agree on what kind of food to get because almost anyone can find something they'll be okay with on the 20 page menu.
You can still buy DVDs, or rent them from Redbox, or if you're lucky enough to have a local library with a DVD collection you can borrow them.
In theory you could have some sort of multi head or rasterizing system scan every bit of the tape and construct a 2D map of the magnetization. It would have to be 2D because many tape formats have multiple tracks, not even in parallel. But decoding that data would be a nightmare that made optical character recognition look like child's play.
